| MHA AND MSCSW CELEBRATE NATIONAL WOMEN'S HEALTH WEEK AT EVENTS AROUND THE STATE MAY 11-17, 2003 | ||||||||||||
| JACKSON, MS (May 6) The Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA) and the Mississippi Commission on the Status of Women (MSCSW) join a national alliance of people and organizations encouraging individuals, health professionals, advocacy groups and local governments to raise awareness about steps all women can take to achieve a happier, healthier lifestyle, during this year's Women's Health Week, which begins on Mother's Day, May 11. | ||||||||||||
| Lt. Governor Amy Tuck enthusiastically initiated Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 601, designating May 11-17, 2003, Women's Health Week in Mississippi. The resolution contains sobering data on the health of Mississippi women and a challenge to raise awareness of the need to change these data. The Week will be celebrated with more than 150 events in nearly every state. | ||||||||||||
| As a kick-off for the week, National Women's Check-Up Day will be observed on Monday, May 12. Participating community health centers, hospitals and other health care providers across the state will recognize this day by offering preventive health screenings and other services. | ||||||||||||
| Across America, people will celebrate the role of good health practices in the lives of women. "America's women hold a unique and special place in our society and contribute to the vitality of our nation and state in countless ways," said Julie Ferguson, Commissioner of the MSCSW."
