James Jackson Hopper was born in Park Co. IN, on August 15, 1829. He later moved to Iowa, where he must have met Julianna Elder, his first wife. They had 7 children together before Julianna past away sometime before 1872. James came to Green Island in 1875, where his second wife, Ann Hanson, owned 80 acres of farm land.  He began a Hotel business in the city, which was only 2 miles from their home.  Ann had 2 children from a previous marriage, named Mary Ann, and Ellen.  When James died in Nov. 1879, Ann remarried a few years later to Mr. McVey.
