HOPPER FAMILY CEMETARY 2

The Hopper Cemetary is a resting place for a number of people who migrated to Tippah Co., MS in the 1800's. The Cemetary is over 160 yrs. old, with the oldest known person buried there in 1837. The Cemetary is located on land that was homesteaded by Thomas J. Hopper in 1836. This land is located by Bridge Creek about 5 miles Southeast of Tiplersville, MS and is now owned by the Eugene Hopper Family. It also contains the resting place of four slaves. It's not known what the names were, because it is information that was passed down thru history by the Hopper Family line. Their graves are located just outside the entrace of the Cemetary itself.

There are a number of other places in the Cemetary that you can tell someone is buried there, but only the aged and the Lord will know who they are. The Hopper's, Meek's, Tapp's, Crooks, Conners', Waldons, and Blackwoods that are buried here are true Heros in the way they had to travel by covered wagons and teh distance they all came together. We can Find these people in Lincoln, CO. TN , Georgia, and Surry Co., NC and the Culpepper, VA area as early as 1757 and probably much earlier.

Another thing is there are more Hopper Cemetarys we know of in Lincoln Co. TN, and Marshall Co. TN,,, and also in North Carolina. Very few people visit the Hopper Cemetary now, because over the years the Hopper family members have either moved on to different places, or they use the Cemetary where they attend Church. The last known person to buried there was Nan J. Waldon in 1944.
