| Tips On Judging Dairy Cattle When jugding any judging class you need to be able to picture the "ideal" in your mind so that you can make your placings around what the breed/type is needed for. Some things to look for in a dairy cow/heifer are: General Appearnce: -Top tine should be straight from shoulders to tail, the lion broad & strong, the rump long & level -The pin bones should be wide apart & level to slightly than hips - The rump is VERY important because it is the framework which holds the udder! Dairy Character: -Implies ability to produce large quantities of milk -Withers should be prominent -Ribs should be long, flat & open (open-ribbed means ribs are wide-apart) -On a good dairy cow you should be able to fit 3 fingers between the last 2 ribs! |
