Food Share Wisconsin
Food Share Wisconsin is a program that was developed to ensure that all Wisconsinites have proper nutrition
regardless of their economic status. Participants in the Food
Share program are "people of all ages who have a job but have
low incomes, are living on small or fixed income, have lost
their job, retired, or are disabled and are not able to work"
(Food Share Wisconsin, 2008).
This program works different than traditional food stamps. Participants in Food Share receive a Wisconsin Quest Card, a debit card with money on it. As with any generic debit card the Quest Card is swiped at the register and you must enter your PIN number. Restrictions do apply to the Quest Card to ensure that it is being used to but nutritious food, not pet food or other non-food items. Items that are restricted on the Quest Card are "alcohol, medicine, non-food items, tobacco, vitamins, any food eaten in the store, and food that is popular at point in sale" (Wisconsin Food Share, 2008).
