Chapter 1: In good company
~*~*~*~*
She had always been especially close to Nana Amelia (Amy). As a child, she had spent every summer with her Grandmother and Grandfather at their Estate in Stratford-on-the-Lake. Maybe it was because they looked so much alike, unlike her mother, with her light blond hair and baby blue eyes, straight narrow teeth, and classical model looks, or maybe it was because they acted so much a like, or talked so much a like, but the bond she had with her Mother’s mother was unbreakable. She was there for every major achievement in her life. Her steadfast friend, that she always turned to, there when she was born, there when she got her first academic award, there when she finished at the top of her class in Elementary school and there the day she got her letter inviting her to Hogwarts.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~Flashback~*~*~*~*~*~
“So Angel what would
you like for breakfast?” Amy asked the precocious 10-year-old sitting at the
round oak table.
“Can I have Waffles
with strawberries?” Mione asked in a hopeful voice, her large brown eyes looked
at her with anticipation.
“And whip cream?” Amy
asked smiling warmly at the little girl.
“Yes, thank you…”
Mione said in her ever serious voice. She turned her attention back to the
large book she was reading. If nothing else, Amelia lived to instill that only
through knowledge did true self-peace exist. Amelia nodded and went to the
cupboard and started taking out the ingredients she needed to make her youngest
granddaughter her favorite breakfast.
“So what are you
reading now?” Amelia asked as she began putting the ingredients in the mix
bowl, However, when she didn’t respond she turned to see what was captivating
her Angel’s attention. She smiled at what she saw. Hermione sitting in her
usual seat was nothing new, but the large brown barn owl that was in front of
her with a letter clapped in its beige beak was still something she was getting
use too.
“A letter from Adam?” Amelia asked as the owl dropped the letter in
front of the young girl and took flight back up the chimney (from which it
presumably came from). Adam was Hermione’s cousin and up until last her the two
had been practically inseparable, But a letter from
and owl right before his 11th birthday had changed all that. Now
fresh out of his first year at
“No, It’s from
Hogwarts. ” The girl said in a cautious voice as she
looked at the pale parchment, running her fingers over the rough paper and
flipping the back to stare at the crest, with careful fingers, she open the
envelope and pulled out two more sheets
of parchment, unfolding them carefully she began to read. She watched a mirage
of emotions flash across the girls face, from scrutiny, to wonder and finally
to amazement.
“What does it read?” Amelia
asked calmly. Instead of answer the young girl wordless handed the woman the
letter and she began to read.

Minerva
McGonagall
Deputy
Headmistress
“Wow, just like Adam…This
is great sweetheart.” Amelia said as she handed the letter back to the young
woman with a smile. Before leaning down and kissing her on top of her curly
head.
The rest of the day
had passed in a dream, by the end of the day her anticipation for whom she would meet tomorrow was almost boiling over. It
took hours for her to fall asleep and when she finally did it was with strange
dreams filled with a tall dark stranger, whom said he would be coming for her
that punctured her dreams that night. She was awoke by 6:00, cold, sweaty and
even more nervous now with three hours to go before the Hogwarts representative
came to her summer home. Her parents
arrived an hour before whom ever was coming would be there and Amelia called
her into the library ½ an hour before hand and talked to her.
“Angel, Your parents
and I want you to know, no matter what choice you make it will be your decision
entirely. The path that you choose will be one of your own designs. If you
choose not to go, you will still be enrolled in Castilian Institute. If you
choose to go to Hogwarts, that’s fine as well. Do you understand?” Amelia asked
in her ever patient voice as she looked at the girl, her black eyes clear,
calm, her full red lips in a soft smile.
“Yes, I’m not sure,
but I’d like to know what my options are before I decide.” Mione said in her
ever serious voice. Amelia smiled softly not surprised by the young girls
answer. When the door bell rang the both women got up and went to foyer.
Hermione stopped before she was to the door looked at her reflection in the
mirror and smoothing back her wide hair. She took a deep breath as Nana open
the door and let the guest inside. She realized at once even before he even
spoke a word, that she would be going to this school. He was extremely tall,
with long white hair and beard that could easily be tucked into his belt, his
style of dress was unlike anything she had ever seen. In robes of Midnight
blue, with moving stars and half circle moons like the glasses on his long
crooked nose, full pink lips in a genial smile and the brightest blue eyes she
had ever seen, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore entered her home and changed her
life as she knew.
~*~*~*~*~*~End Flashback~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Now as she stood in the over crowed ballroom at her Grandmother’s Estate, Celebrating her Nana’s 56th birthday. She could help but wonder why she was so diplomatic. The band was playing an old tune, and she watched as her Nana and Papa danced in graceful melody. She along with her parents sat in the parlor all four asking questions, but Nana was the only face whom showed not an ounce of surprise at the answers that warm summer day give by the unusual dressed older man. There was a calmness about her that no matter how hard she tried Mione could never rustle this woman. Therefore, as her grandparents separated, it was with purposeful strides that she walked to where her grandmother was the center of attention. The candle lit chandlers giving the light bronze complexion a warm honey glow, enhancing the graying curly black curls that were held up, showing of the seemly neck, her eyes full of merriment as she talked to her children, grandchildren and friends she had made over the past 56 years. Her laugher echoing through out the classically beautiful room.
“Hi, Nana, Happy Birthday…” Hermione said as she stepped forward and placed a kiss on her smooth cheek. For 56 years old the women looked no older then 36, Standing together, people often mistook them for mother and daughter, not grandmother and granddaughter. Her mother was very fair, and looked more like her grandfather. Hermione on the other hand looked more like Amy, but with lighter hair and eye color. The other differences were the lines about Nana’s eyes and mouth spent from a lifetime of laughter. At 5ft 6in in height, with shapely legs, narrow waists, flat tummies and high voluptuous chests, both were an eye full.
“Mione, you look beautiful, I’m so happy you’re here.” Amy said as she wrapped her strong arms around the young woman that looked more and more like her everyday.
“Thank you, I’m sorry I haven’t been around that much, I’ve been…Busy.” She said as she stopped unsure of how to tell this to Nana, but at the same time feeling, that she would understand.
“That’s fine, will you have time to stay awhile.” Nana asked expectantly.
“Yes, for the week, there’s something I wanted to talk to you about, but it can wait.” Hermione said quietly, leaning forward in a soft whisper.
“Don’t worry your parents told me what happened, meet me in the garden in about an hour ok, Angel.” Nana said in a reassuring voice. She leaned back and Mione nodded slight indicating that she would be there, come hell or high water.
She spent the next hour talking to relatives she had not see
in ages. Most knowing about her being a witch and were she had gone to school. She
had looked for Adam. Hoping to see him, His parent had said he was running late
but would be there in a little while. Both Congratulating
her on her O.W.L.’s and talked about what was going on with her. She danced
with a few young men in attendance, but when the clock struck
“You know if I hadn’t survived Cancer, I wonder what Mr.
Potter would do without you.” Amy said kidding as she and her cousin Adam came
walking down the path. Like Hermione, he too was looked very much like their
grandmother, and the only other magical in her family. He was starting his 7th
year at
“God, am I happy to see you, and what do you mean by that Nana…When did you have Cancer?” Mione asked in surprise as let go of her cousin and turned to look at the woman whom never ceased to amaze her.
“I want both of you to sit down first, and then I’ll explain…” Amy said calmly as she looked at her Grandchildren with a stern look. Both teens sat down obediently, casting a questioning look at one another, before looking up at the women.
“Ok, let’s see…First I want you two to know how proud I am of the both of you, and how much I love you. Secondly, this is a mystery that I have yet to piece entirely together, but it does affect the both of you. At least I believe it does, and both your headmasters agree. So tomorrow, we will be going into hiding. Your parent’s and I have decided to give you the choice to stay or come with us. If you stay Albus said, he will take on the role of Godfather and legal guardian on both of your behalves. Adam even though you are 17 you are an emancipated by Wizarding law, But I trust you would want to spend your time with Mione. Albus said he would be more then happy to accept you into Hogwarts and said that he will, if you choose to go there, will appoint you Head Boy. So now it’s up to you…” Amy said solemnly as she bowed her head. Tears falling from her coal black eyes as she kneeled before her stunned grandchildren whose lives would never be the same….
