Critique
This
lesson went quite well. At times, it felt very chaotic, but it
was a positive chaos as all the children were at different stages of
their tessellation. The enrichment activities were also
helpful. I did have some students who finished quite early, so it
was nice to be able to direct them either to the computers or in search
of tessellations. The websites I recommended were helpful and fun
for the kids; they also provided beautiful examples of intricate
tessellations. I found that the students who did not get to use
the computers were quite jealous; I tried to allow everybody a chance
to visit these sites during breaks later in the day.
I sent three students around the school with a digital camera to take
pictures of patterns that they found. They came back with about
15 pictures; I uploaded those on the laptop so all the students could
view these pictures on the Active Board. We had a great
discussion about the patterns and tessellations found; I feel that all
my students benefitted from this activity, not just the three taking
the pictures.
