| South Carolina ranks in the top 10 for the highest rate of unintentional death by drowning. While recreational water activities can be fun and family oriented, they can also be deadly. Little is known about the impact of youth and water safety educational programs. Drowning does not only cost lives but it also costs money. Did you know? Drowning and near drowning injuries among children in the United States result in an estimated $6.2 billion per year. Most children drown in swimming pools. Typically drownings occur when a child or person is left unattended or during a brief lapse in supervision. Througn Water Safety Education and proper supervision many drownings and near drownings can be prevented. With my platform, I will work with organizations that promote all aspects of Water Safety Education. |
