Disclaimer: I do not own Beyblade. Lyrics – ‘Someday’ by Nickelback.

I’m using the Japanese names:

Takao = Tyson

Hiromi = Hillary

Someday, Somehow

Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil, doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

(1 Cor 13, 4-7)

Takao was pacing angrily in the main room of the Kinomiya dojo. He and Hiromi just had had another fight. The girl run of a few seconds earlier and almost collided with Kai, who wanted to enter.

How the hell did we wind up like this
Why weren’t we able
To see the signs that we missed
And try to turn the tables

The stoic teenager came in and his impassive stare was immediately fixed at his annoyed teammate. While the dual-hair-coloured boy’s face may have been calm, his thoughts were not. He felt torn – he knew, Hiromi and Takao cared for each other, but were not yet ready to admit it. That was why they reacted so strongly to any small disagreement they had. But – there was always one but for Kai – he felt very similar towards Takao. In the beginning, when he first met the brown-haired girl he felt jealous and endangered, but now it was different.

I wish you’d unclench your fists

And unpack your suitcase

Lately there’s been too much of this

Don’t think it’s too late

He realized he had never had a chance to make Takao be more than just a friend. So he would do the only thing he could – try as hard as he could to keep the tanned ‘blader safe and happy – even if it meant making the blue-haired boy and Hiromi apologize, he would greet his teeth and bare it. He was no weakling… And seeing the younger boy laugh again was worth it.

Nothin’s wrong

Just as long as

You know that someday I will

He inhaled silently, preparing mentally for a talk which obviously would be a far cry from being easy.

‘Kinomiya, you should apologize to her,’ he stated in his firmest tone.

‘Why me?! She started it!’ the other boy snapped.

‘I bet that if I asked her she’d say that you were the one who started,’ the captain of the BBA team replied coolly. ‘Look Kinomiya, whatever you say now – you like her and she likes you. So go and apologize.’

‘You’re joking?! She’s the most annoying person, I’ve ever met!’

‘That’s why whenever you two quarrel your effectiveness as a beyblader drops?’ Kai countered.

‘That’s all you care about! Beyblading!’ Takao barked. ‘Stupid of me to even start thinking you might actually be concerned!’

Someday, somehow

Gonna make it all right but not right now

I know you’re wondering when

(You’re the only one who knows that)

Someday, somehow

Gonna make it all right but not right now

I know you’re wondering when

The pale adolescent closed his eyes, trying to ignore the stinging behind his eyelids. He was not going to show that he was hurt. He was no weakling.

Well I hoped the since we’re here anyway

We could end up saying

Things we’ve always needed to say

So we could end up stringing

Now the story’s played out like this

Just like a paperback novel

Let’s rewrite an ending that fits

Instead of a Hollywood horror

‘…’ he opened his eyes and sighed, inwardly battling himself to say what he new was essential. ‘…You always said we were friends and if that’s true, it’s rather obvious, I’ll try to reconcile you two. Seeing that both of you are hurt…’

Nothin’s wrong

Just as long as

You know someday I will

The tanned Japanese stared at his teammate in shock, his mouth and eyes opened widely. It was so unlike Kai to say things like that – and he obviously meant what he said. Last but not least, Takao realized the other teenager was right. He grinned brightly at his captain and Kai almost felt like smiling himself.

Someday, somehow
Gonna make it all right but not right now
I know you’re wondering when
(You’re the only one who knows that)
Someday, somehow
Gonna make it all right but not right now
I know you’re wondering when
(You’re the only one who knows that)

‘You’re right! Sorry for being mean! Gotta go!’ The blunette yelled out those words so fast that they were hard to understand. Then he dashed off, leaving the other ‘blader alone. The taller teenager allowed a bitter smile to creep on his face, as he thought:

You’re such a bloody sappy idiot Hiwatari… but at least Takao was smiling again…

How the hell did we wind up like this

Why weren’t we able

To see the signs that we missed

And try to turn the tables

A/N

Well, I’ve been listening to ‘Someday’ recently and had that idea. Struck me like a lightening you might say – so I wrote it down. I know, I was mean to Kai… but it was for the sake of the plot.

The quote at the beginning is taken from the Bible (New Testament) – hope nobody feels offended. I’m Christian myself and don’t see anything offensive in using a quote from the Bible – it has been done by many greater authors than myself. ‘s all.
