Chapter Five

Isis Ishtar was calmly eating her lunch and observing her host, who seemed to be concentrating more on his meal than on her. It wasn’t as if Seto was doing something very unusual for himself and it amused her to some extent. On the other hand she would have preferred to know what the brown-haired youth wanted from her – which would make the whole story a lot less complicated for both of them, she was sure. But not much was easy concerning the young CEO.

“Hn?” the object of her thoughts made a sound, which probably should be translated to “What are you staring at?”

“Oh, nothing. I was just wondering, if you’ll be so nice and actually say a whole sentence,” she answered calmly, her voice void of any sarcastic tune.

“Let’s say I’m laughing now,” Seto Kaiba snorted.

“I’m charmed by your politeness,” she replied. “But I’m surprised you invited me here.”

 “Surprised, by what?”

“By the fact that you missed that there is going to be a lot of paparazzi waiting for us at the entrance, so they can photograph us when we come out.”

“I can deal with them,” the CEO shrugged and returned to eating his meal. The Egyptian frowned lopsidedly, wondering where all that confidence came from. But whatever was its reason, it seemed to be endless.

As soon as the two came out of the restaurant, the flashes of cameras lit up the street. The reporters circled the black-haired woman and her blue-eyed companion, grinning like sharks which just spotted an easy pray. Most of them lost their confidence as soon as they noticed Isis’ and Seto’s expressions. The Egyptian looked at them with complete calmness, gazing like an ancient oracle, who knew all what was hidden – she alone would probably be enough to make the paparazzi doubt if they found another steamy story. But there was also the CEO of the Kaiba Corporation – the tall enigmatic Japanese, who right now seemed like a statue made of steel – while Isis tranquillity had an air of mystery, his promised danger.

“What do you want?” the tall youth asked, not bothering to sound polite in the least. He had an opinion of a rude bastard and he would uphold it, especially since it was very useful in dealing with such leaches.

“Are you having an affair, Mister Kaiba?” one of the journalists yelled preparing his recorder.

“And why should I answer that?” Seto countered, staring at the individual, while his face didn’t betray his feeling in the least.

“The public has the right to know!” one of the reporters answered promptly.

“Ah… Yes, of course. Would you mind checking what John Thompson is doing at seven o’clock that is so important that he can’t get on time to work?” the Japanese businessman said, sounding rather bored. “I am the public as well and I have the right to know.”

“But it’s not interesting to the public!”

“So I’m not the public? My, my… Or how come what I do is more interesting?.. Not to mention, I though I had the right for privacy,” he glared at the assembled paparazzi. “What I do concerns my company, not the public. Good bye, gentleman.”

After saying that he started to walk towards his limo, treating the journalists as if they didn’t exist. It certainly made some of them move back – or was it the fact that this young man had on opinion of being a very ruthless creature?

Seto Kaiba only smirked with superiority and when the circle of reporters was behind him and Isis he turned around to grace them with one last comment:

“If any of you wishes to meet my lawyers, he can publish some idiotic story about me in any cheap newspaper he might be working for. But I wouldn’t advise doing that,” he said while smiling nastily.

Isis observed the blue-eyed CEO with a small smile. She intended to ask him about the paparazzi, but not right now. He may have seemed calm, yet she knew he was fuming inside.

“Do you think you really dealt with them?” she asked.

“If they try writing any nonsense, they’ll end up in court,” she snorted with annoyance.

“Nonsense? Is this really nonsense, my boy?”

“Why do you keep calling my boy?” the CEO sounded displeased.

“You’re younger than me, Seto,” she answered.

 “So?”

“So I have every right to call you a boy.”

“You want us going ‘do not’ and ‘do too’?” he asked with some faint amusement.

“It would do you well, if you stopped acting so very adult…” Isis said, giving the youth a look from half-closed eyes.

“You don’t expect me to act like a certain immature pup?”

“I think, I missed the joke…” the Egyptian feigned a sigh. “I haven’t seen any dogs when you were around.”

“I didn’t call him mutt or anything dog-related around you?” the CEO sounded very surprised. “But I keep doing it since we met!.. Or rather since he started annoying me with his mere existence.”

“Yes… That explains everything.” Isis answered sounding slightly annoyed.

 “Jounouchi Katuya.”

“The nice boy with blond hair and a sister named Shizuka? I can imagine why you wouldn’t like him,” she said calmly.

“Is there a way to make you shut up?” Seto sighed. “You either talk about this fortunetelling nonsense, or you act as if you knew me.”

“Well, my boy… As a matter of fact you aren’t as half difficult to understand as you think,” the Egyptian smirked. The tall Japanese awarded her with a gaze which could rival with that of Queen Victoria when she said her “We are not amused”.
