Chapter Two

“You could stay here for a while.” Seto commented, his face betraying nothing he might have felt, as they were coming near to his limo.

“Why the sudden hospitability?” Isis asked.

 “Ever heard of White Day?”

 “Of what?”

“23rd March. I’m supposed to give you white chocolate then, since you gave me that.” he raised the small box.

“And you’re going to?” the Egyptian cocked one eyebrow. The brown-haired CEO nodded, looking a bit awkward for a moment. In a matter of seconds he recomposed himself, though.

“Never mind. It’s just a tradition.”

“You’re as charming as ever.” The black-haired woman muttered. They didn’t talk during the way to the Kaiba mansion.

If Isis was awed or surprised by the size or by the interior of Seto’s house, it didn’t show. Knowing her, she might have been brought to some royal palace and she would remain as calm. Internally, she observed that the mansion was, as she expected, for the lack of a better word – flashy. Seto Kaiba was a show-off, after all. A show-off with a reasonably good taste, but a show-off nonetheless.

“ONIISAMA!” a loud cheerful yell broke the silence, as Mokuba Kaiba slammed into his older brother, squeezing him as hard as he could.

“Hi.” the tall youth answered, hoping that Isis didn’t notice. A muffled giggle proved his hopes were futile. “What’s so funny?” he growled.

“Not funny…” the black-haired woman said. “Cute.”

“I am not cute.” the CEO answered indignantly.

“Of course not.” The Egyptian nodded, smirking. The blue-eyed youth rolled his eyes annoyedly. Meanwhile, Mokuba stopped harassing his brother and took a closer look at Isis.

“You were at the Battle City, weren’t you?” he asked. He took a step back and noticed the box of chocolates Seto was still holding. The black-haired boy grinned mischievously. “See you later!” and run off.

If the tall duellist was to chose a quote, which would fit this situation best he’d probably say the famous Jedi-words “I have a bad feeling about this”, while the raven-haired woman was highly bemused.

“What did you want to talk about?”

 “So… Will you be staying?”

 “You didn’t answer my question.”

“I will… Later. Mine is more important.”

The Egyptian rolled her eyes and sighed.

 “What about Malik?”

“He’s big enough to take care of himself. And there’s that Rishid or Rashid or whatever his name was with the scars.”

“…” the tanned woman gave the CEO a dubious look.

“…” the young man returned her stare. They stood like that, none of them flinching for a good while. Seto had a nagging feeling of déjà vu as it continued… No, it wasn’t déjà vu – there was a familiarity, but not because of anything that might have happened earlier. He frowned and tried to dismiss the idea which started to form in his head, but after a moment he gave up. It was true… She did remind him of himself, when she was worried about her brother… again.

He turned a round and went the nearest rooms, quite sure she would fallow him.

Isis sat comfortably in an armchair, watching as Seto twiddled with the ribbon tied over the box. It didn’t seem as if he was going to open it soon… nor talk for the matter. It seemed she had two options to choose from: she could start talking herself or wait ‘till he would. Neither seemed appealing to her.

The brown-haired youth raised his head for a moment and their eyes met. The woman wondered, if it was her imagination or did the young man look uncomfortable under the mask of icy calmness.

“You don’t really trust Malik.” he said, breaking the silence.

 “It’s none of your business.”

The tall Japanese returned to pulling on the ribbon, while Isis tried to bore out a head in his skull with her glare.

“You can eat those, you know.” she said angrily. “They’re not poisoned.”

Seto gave her a somewhat surprised look and started unpacking the box. He opened it and gave the treats an unreadable look. Then he jerked his head up and extended the hand with the box in her direction.

“You don’t believe me?” it was actually somewhat funny, so she took one chocolate and ate it. “See. They aren’t poisoned.”

“I never said they were.” The CEO answered, sounding faintly amused himself and ate another chocolate. “I did about some woman, who wanted to kill her husband so badly that she drunk the poison with him, so he would die.”

 “Charming story.”

The blue-eyed youth shrugged and diplomatically popped a chocolate into his mouth. He stopped looking at her too. Isis sighed. Obviously, whatever Seto intended to tell her wouldn’t get past his lips now. If it were somebody else, she would have tried to pry the information out of them… but the Japanese was a different case. She had a feeling that if she tried hurrying things up, she wouldn’t learn anything at all. Unfortunately, he made her curious, and although Isis wouldn’t admit it, she was worried – it was so unlike Kaiba to ask someone for, even the slightest, help. She would have to stay.

 She sighed again.

“I have to call Malik and tell him, I won’t be back as planned.” She said and wondered why Seto seemed so shocked and disbelieving. Didn’t he expect her to agree?

A/N

Since you asked so nicely, I wrote another chapter. ^^

The story about the woman, who drunk the poison with her husband is quite old – I read it in a book about Celts. Let’s just say they didn’t get along at all.

You’ll have to wait a bit longer to know, what exactly Kaiba-boy wanted to talk about… It’s not so easy to make him talk.
