Nightmare
What the hell are you looking at? I’m not
going to tell my story to make you pity me. I don’t need anyone’s pity. I’m not
some weakling. You just sit there and listen, before I change my mind.
I guess, I should start at the beginning...
Where I was born and things like that. I don’t really remember much. There’s a
person... an older boy, with an irregular scar on his cheek. I think he was my
brother... or maybe cousin? Funny, I can’t recall my parents. I don’t remember
their faces, voices... anything...
I don’t remember being taken to the Abby, too.
It’s as if fell asleep at my home and woke up in the Abby next day. I’m just
sure nobody ever came to see me. They didn’t care... Maybe they’re dead? Some
kids had been kidnapped, their families killed. Maybe that’s what happened to
me? But... I don’t remember.
The training started the day I got there, I think.
I don’t remember much of the first stages. I was four or five... I remember,
when they took me to some special training. A guard woke me up at night and
told me to go to the one of the halls. Well, that’s were the real
unpleasentries start. There were other kids already. No, the rest of the
Demolition Boys wasn’t there. The scientists – four of them – came in and
checked our health. One kid was thrown out then – too weak, they said. They
would beat us everyday... If any of us cried, they’d beat us even more... One
didn’t survive this part. Cut his wrists. After we all learned it was pointless
to cry, to scream, they stopped. It was a preparing of a sort. The next part
was... strange. Each of us got an animal. I got a puppy... We were supposed to
look after them.
Yeah, it is strange. But will stop gaping? If
you want somebody to explain it to you, ask Balkov – not me.
So after a month or so, they told us to hurt
the animal. If you didn’t do what they told you to, you’d get beaten. I... I
was weakling back than. Didn’t have the guts to hurt the mongrel. It took
really long, before I finally understood, I should do what they told me to.
That it’s pointless to care for anything. And than they ordered us to kill the
animal. You’d think, I would know I should do it... But I couldn’t... One of
them took me to a separate room... It was my fault. Should’ve done what
they told me to.
Stop looking at me like this! I don’t need
your pity! I’m stronger than that! I... Leave me alone... Just leave me
alone...
