Kai’s Birthday: Chapter 6
The Demolition Boys had been thinking for a
good while, what to buy and the pornographic comic idea seemed to be the most
sensible by far. Now the only problem was how to buy the said gift.
-
Look
Sergey, it’s not like I wouldn’t have done it, if I were bigger. – tried to
explain Ivan. – But most people think I’m still in kindergarten.
-
I’m
not doing this. – the burly blond refused to try buying the comics for a good
while.
-
Do
you have any better ideas? – snorted Boris.
-
No.
But I’m not doing this. – Sergey’s voice never faltered.
-
You
get a ‘half’ from each of us. – said Yuri. The larger boy gave his captain a
considering look and nodded. Ivan took out a notebook and scribbled something
down in it.
-
I
wish I were bigger... – he muttered darkly.
Kyouju looked nervously as the captain of the Demolition Boys walked to
him again.
-
Hey,
pipsqueak! – the red-head said. – Take us to a place were we can buy those
pornographic comic books.
The small Bladebraker needed all his courage
to stutter faintly.
-
T-they’re
c-c-called h-hentai...
-
Oh.
– Yuri nodded. – Wonder what’s wrong with him? – he muttered under his breath.
-
Kyouju!
– Sanquinex said. – We want to go to this shop. – and shoved a photo under the
brown-haired boys nose. The Japanese nodded shakily.
Kai spent almost half a day thinking what he
was supposed to prepare for the party. He had never organized one before and
had only a faint idea about preparing it. There should be music. But than he
didn’t expect jazz would do – people like Max or Takao needed other kind of
tune to do the jumping they would call dancing. And he couldn’t forget the
food. There was Takao, who ate as much as a small army, Rei, who could devour
little less when in the right mood and that made Kai wonder about the White
Tigers appetites. The Demolition Boys were growing boys as were Steve, Eddie
and Michael – he couldn’t picture the Majestics eating really very much,
but still. He had absolutely no idea what to give the Dark Bladers.
Kai had been so occupied by his thoughts he didn’t
notice a maid enter.
-
Sir?
– the girl asked.
-
Hn...
– the beyblader gazed at her with an unfocused look, people before an exam
have.
-
Miaka
Kigai wants to see you.
Kai sighed, relived. Kitsuneko probably knew
more about organizing parties.
-
Let
her in. – he said. The maid turned around and swiftly disappeared behind the
door. Come to think of it, it was rather strange that his grandfather employed
only female servants. Not that he had anything against it. The maid came inside
again, Kai’s classmate behind her.
-
Hi!
– the small girl waved her hand cheerfully. – I thought you might need a bit
help.
-
Sir,
there’s a Takao Kinomiya to see you. – the servant announced.
-
Let
him in. – Kai sighed.
His teammate came in a few minutes later,
smiling brightly.
-
Hallo!
– he said. – I thought I could help a bit! So it’ll be more fun.
-
It’s...
er... nice. – muttered the captain of the Bladebrakers, when an idea struck
him. – Say, what food, you reckon, there should be?
-
Oh,
definitely a big, birthday cake! – happily exclaimed Takao. Kai nodded.
-
But
I’m not going to blow any candles. – he said menacingly.
-
It’d
be nice, if we had something traditional. – added Miaka. – You know: daifuku,
manjyu and so on.
-
You
don’t expect I’ll feed you sugar all the time? – asked Kai.
-
Nah,
we need some nice, warm meals. – Takao answered. – Ramen would be okay, soba
and udon too.
-
Oh!
And how about kinko-gohan? – suggested Miaka. Soon the older Bladebraker was
sitting and watching as his teammate and his classmate added various meals from
all over the world to a very long list. After about an hour of listening to the
discussion about the food, Kai decided it was enough.
-
There
are other things, you know. – he said rather loudly, to make sure he distracted
Takao from the topic. Food and that boy were an annoying combination, to say
the least.
-
More
important than proper stuff to eat? – the said boy looked genuinely shocked.
-
Yes.
– hissed the tatooed teenager. – You’ve chosen enough food to feed Guu.
-
Guu?
– Takao blinked.
-
From
‘
-
She
has a black hole instead of a stomach. – filled Miaka in. Suddenly Takao’s expression
changed drastically. He looked as if he were deeply in thought.
-
Kai,
did you notice Emily and Max?.. – he left the question unfinished.
-
They’re
not as obvious as Rei and Mao, but yeah. – answered the grey-blue-haired boy,
wondering how on Earth did Takao notice that.
-
So
I was wondering, if they... well... – the other boy scratched his head
nervously.
-
I
am not playing matchmaker, Kinomiya. – growled Kai. Takao made a very
disappointed expression. He looked really upset and his captain felt a pang of
guilt. To tell the truth he was starting to feel really stupid, especially that
Kitsuneko was looking at him in a way that clearly said ‘You are too mean’ and
‘It’s nothing big’. He sighed heavily. – But I can help a bit, I guess. – he
muttered. Takao’s face lit up again and Miaka bounced up.
-
Can
I help, too? – she asked. – Can I, can I, canicanicani?
Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease? With a cherry, chocolate and ice-cream on the
top?
-
Okay...
– said Kai, suddenly feeling rather nervous.
The White Tigers and Rei were all very tired
after several hours of looking for a way back. When they finally arrived to
their hotel, Rei looked particularly downcast. Maybe it was the fact that his
wounds were still fresh and had to hurt by this time – Mao was supporting him
for good while.
-
I’m
sorry. – he suddenly spoke up.
-
Nobody’s
blaming you. – said Rai. – I was the one with, who lost the map. – he added
darkly.
-
But
I was supposed to help you not to get lost! – protested the long-haired
teenager.
-
Now,
you guys go to your rooms and I’ll help Rei. – chimed Mao in. – Okay? – she
smiled sweetly at Rai, who nodded and turned around. Kiki raised his eyebrow and
mutter something under his breath. Gao yawned and shrugged. He was too sleepy
to bother with such trivialities as why Mao always wants to help Rei. Besides
Kiki had already had dirty thoughts for him. Mao waited a while till the rest
of her them went up to their rooms.
-
Would
you fancy going to the café? – she asked.
-
Um...
Yeah... – Rei sounded slightly nervous. They went into the hotel-café, Rei
still leaning on Mao for support. It was a nice place, with small tables for
maximum four persons. There weren’t many people – a couple engrossed in a
fierce discussion, an important looking man drinking coffee and young girl with
her mother both eating jelly. The teenagers chose a table near one of the large
windows.
-
So...
er... what do you think about your team? – Mao said the first thing she could
think of. She vaguely wondered why she was so nervous – when they were children
she always felt at ease with Rei.
-
They’re
OK. – answered Rei. – Er... well, Kyouju is a bit too concentrated on
beyblading, Kai can get really grumpy now and than and you wouldn’t believe the
rows he and Takao have. Speaking of which, Takao eats like a load of starved piranhas.
Max is the most normal person by far... A bit hyperactive most of the time,
though. But they’re really nice, when you get to know them. – he rambled just
to keep talking. Funny, he recalled being rather relaxed while spending his
time with Mao, when he was a child.
-
You
know, I missed you very much, when you were gone! – the words seemed to have
escaped Mao’s lips against her will. She blushed madly and stared at her hands.
This was the most idiotic thing to say to Rei, wasn’t it? She didn’t want to
make him feel guilty!
-
I
missed you too... – came Rei’s reply. Mao jerked her head up. Her friend was as
red as a beet-root. And something in his expression clearly said that he too
liked her very, very much.
Manjyu – steamed cake. I don’t know what
exactly daifuku is, but it’s a dessert.
Ramen,
soba and udon are
different kinds of noodles.
Kinko-gohan
– mushroom rice.
The ‘half’ is
a ½ l. bottle of vodka.
