Kai’s Birthday: Chapter 12

Yuri looked at the small Japanese and than at the shogi board. Was that thing big! And than what was this figure for?

-         How about that? – he finally said. Miaka just grinned.

-         And I can do this. – she said and made a move, which reduced the red-heads chances of winning to much less percents.

-         What are you doing? – somebody asked.

-         Boris? – the Russian captain glared at this teammate. He was still fed-up and violet-haired moron would better notice.

-         We’re  playing shogi! – Miaka giggled.

-         What’s shogi? – asked the pale teenager.

-         A strategical game... – the black-haired girl proceeded to explain the mysteries of the game, while Yuri tried to remember the use of another figure. Boris gaped and nodded dumbly. Unfortunately, the Japanese talked very quickly and pronounced some words in a peculiar way, which made it harder to understand what she said.  Thus neither the captain nor the other Demolition Boy exactly understood what the game was about. The red-head finally placed the figure in a different place.

-         You shouldn’t put that here. – said Boris.

-         You sure?

-         No.

Takao grinned – he just had a brilliant idea! Much more brilliant than Michael’s ‘Truth or Dare’. He caught Max’ arm and whispered one word. The blond boy chuckled and nodded vigorously. They both dashed to Kai, still grinning as if they just won another championship.

-         Kai! Why don’t we go to a karaoke bar? – said Takao, looking at his captain hopefully.

-         Eh? – the red-eyed teenager glared at them. – Isn’t it enough, I made this party?

-         You enjoy it too! – pointed out the blue-haired boy. – Come on! It’ll be fun!

-         Please! – chimed Max in. – Please!

-         Oh, all right. – muttered the older beyblader.

-         People! – yelled Takao at the top of his voice. – We’re doing karaoke!

The reactions varied from wildly enthusiastic to disgusted – if the person in question hadn’t been deafened by the young world Champions yell. Eddie had just woken up and still wasn’t sober. He didn’t actually understand what was going on, but cheered nonetheless. Kyouju, to the surprise of the people who were near, hopped several times. Ralf wrinkled his nose disdainfully, while Rai suspiciously regarded Rei, who started chuckling nervously. Mao huffed and poked the other Chinese’ head, glaring.

-         You’re overprotective. – she grumbled. Rai simply looked at her.

 Meanwhile Max had an illumination.

-         You know what, Kai? – he grinning. – I have an idea!

-         And you’ll tell me it no matter what I say. – snorted the blue-grey-haired teen. – Go on!

-         So, you should choose – the blond chuckled. – what everybody sings. It’s your birthday and you should have fun!

-         Er... – Kai gaped at his teammate, his mouth open.

-         I could help you choose. – happily continued Max, cheerful as ever.

-         I could help you too! – volunteered Takao.

-         Maybe you’ll play ‘Paper, rock, scissors’ to see, who should help me? – muttered Kai sarcastically.

-         Hey Kai! – Takao looked at the other boy confusedly. – How come all your advice is so good?

The captain of the Bladebreakers sighed and rolled his eyes.

The beybladers have gone to one of the many karaoke bars in the area. Most of them were curiously looking around – since they never saw a real, Japanese karaoke bar. Not that it was something extraordinary. Takao and Kai were sitting at a table and looking at each other.

-         Brilliant. – snorted the older boy. – What do you want to sing?

-         Vader’s ‘Silent Empire’. – replied the other beyblader with a goofy smile.

-         ...whatever. – muttered Kai.

-         And what will you sing?

-         Billy Holliday’s ‘Blue Moon’. – answered the tattooed teenager monotonously.

-         What do you think, should Max sing? – mused the blue-haired boy.

-         How should I know? I never volunteered for this job! – huffed Kai annoyedly.

-         Maybe something funny?

-         What? – snorted the red-eyed boy.

-         Uh... Bloodhound Gang’s ‘Mope’? – finally suggested Takao.

-         Whatever... What about Rei? – mused Kai. – Maybe that theme song from ‘Rocky’? – he hummed – ‘It’s the eye of the tiger...’

-         Would be good. – nodded the smaller beyblader. – What was the title?

-         ... – Kai closed his eyes for a moment trying to remember. – ‘Eye of the Tiger’... by Survivior.

-         So, now’s Kyouju. – the blue-haired boy said and remained silent.

-         Don’t you have any ideas? – asked the older beyblader.

-         No...

And than Eddie – who was still drunk – started singing:

-         ‘Boom, boom, boom! I want you in my room!’

-         What are you singing? – Takao leaned over the chair and looked inquiringly at tall American.

-         Vengaboys’ ‘Boom, boom, boom’ – answered the bartender, because Eddie could only give glazed looked in response.
