Go To Sleep
***
She woke up. It wasn’t normal for Hiromi to
wake up in the middle of the night, but suddenly she had a nagging feeling,
that she absolutely had to wake up, because somebody needed her.
She frowned. The feeling didn’t disappear, but
grew stronger and stronger with every second. Turning around, she covered her
head with her blanket, but it didn’t help.
Suddenly she heard somebody get up and walk
over. Was somebody going to the toilet?
“Kai?” to her surprise it was Takao’s voice –
all worried, unlike his usual confident tone. She didn’t know, he could sound
like that. It was more like Rei, wasn’t it?
That was when Hiromi decided she really had to
get up. Later she wasn’t sure why she did it – was it because of Kai or Takao?
Maybe both?
She got up and padded to kneeling figure, she
assumed was Takao.
“Kai?” the tanned boy’s voice sounded more
urgent. Soon she knew why, as in the pale moonlight, which sneaked inside through
the windows, she saw Kai’s face.
He was asleep. She could tell he was having a
nightmare – his blanket was tangled and his expression was showing fear. Never
did she see the usually collected adolescent like that.
“Hiromi?” Takao whispered, but she still heard
the surprise in his voice.
“I had to wake up.” She answered silently. “I
felt somebody needed me.”
She wasn’t sure, but she thought she heard him
mutter: “You too?”
Her eyes drifted back to Kai’s sleeping form,
as she placed one hand on his arm. She couldn’t help, but wonder how a boy his
age could develop such musculature.
“Kai?” Takao tried again, his voice panicky.
All of a sudden, the older teen sat up abruptly, his eyes wide open and
unseeing.
“Kai?” I was her, who tried to get the pale
boy’s attention this time. Takao, after a moment, wrapped his arms around the
taller teen, taking him into a protective hug. Kai’s look slowly became focused
again. For a moment it seemed he was going to relax, but then he noticed
Hiromi.
Was he embarrassed?
She gently placed her hand on his arm and
started to stroke it. He continued to look at her, but slowly relaxed.
Suddenly, she felt his arm on her back, as he brought her into the hug, he was
sharing with Takao. Her head was almost touching that of her classmates. The
slate-haired adolescent buried his face in their hair and she could feel his
breath tickling her ear.
After they spent nobody knows how much time
like that, she heard Takao’s muffled voice ask: “Was it the old one?”
“No…” she could hear the hesitation in Kai’s
voice. Was it her, who made him wander if he should tell about his dream? He
pulled back and looked into her eyes – esteeming if he could trust her? “It was
about Yuya… I was looking for him - in a dark cave. I though, there was a sea
nearby – I could hear the waves. So I just kept walking… And suddenly I knew
those weren’t waves.” He stopped for a moment. “Out of the sudden it wasn’t
dark anymore. There were cages. Rows of them. All with children inside.
Mutilated children muttering to themselves… That was that humming. And they
looked like Yuya…”
“It was just a dream.” said Takao.
“Everything’s all right. Cyber Dranzer doesn’t
control Yuya anymore.” The girl added.
“I know… It’s just…”
“That’s not
your fault.” The blue-haired ‘blader stated firmly. “It was his choice. Nobody
forced him.”
“Go to sleep Kai.” Hiromi whispered gently.
“Everything’s going to be fine.”
“You’re making me feel like a kid.” Kai
sighed, half-annoyed, half-amused. “All right, all right. I’m going to sleep.”
the teen laid down and made shooing motion with his hand. They both stood up
and she noticed that Takao was still worried.
But on the next morning all was normal – Kai
was calm and Takao was goofing around, so she wasn’t sure anymore, if it wasn’t
a dream.

A/N
The dream Kai had is a dream my friend told me
she once had in a slightly altered version. She didn’t know the kids she saw.
Anyway, about the feeling Takao and Hiromi had
– I think, it might have been Dranzer. Takao hears his bit beast from time to
time and I think, he said that Dranzer was upset about Kai leaving him for
Black Dranzer. As for Hiromi – she did see the “invisible” bit beasts first…
Why those two and not, say, Rei? Well, I
always had the impression that Takao was much more worried about Kai than Rei
was. As for Hiromi – I had to satisfy her maternal instincts.
Now this story is a friendship fic more or
less, but if you really want to it can be slight TyKa or KaiHil, or even
TyKaHil. It was born out of my indecisiveness – should I pair up Kai ant Takao?
Or maybe Takao and Hiromi? But then Kai would stay alone… And at that moment my
brain suggested making it a threesome… But I couldn’t decide it – so it’s only
a possibility here. Until yours truly decides, that is. :P ‘S all I’ve got to
say.
