Kai sighed – he knew Yuriy only a few months
and he was starting to feel a bit tired with him. Actually, a bit tired was an
understatement: he had enough of the red-haired pest for a few years.
The captain of the NeoBorgs was energetic –
almost as much as Takao and Max; not to mention, he was pretty much paranoid.
Really, nobody forced them to come, so he should shut up… unless he was doing
that to annoy Kai, which was quite probable option. After all, he never liked
him; Kai would even say he was jealous of him to add some spice. Not a good
combination.
Getting easily angry was another of Yuriy’s
traits, which could have driven a saint insane. You never knew when and why
he’d blow up – and when he did, he was usually loud. Kai did not like much
noise…
But that wasn’t the worst trait of Yuriy’s –
the redhead was bossy. He always knew what Kai should be doing and the dual-haired
teen didn’t like being told such things. He was perfectly capable of taking
care of himself; not to mention, he didn’t like company.
It was something none of the NeoBorgs seemed to
understand. They were like a pack, always together, following their leader.
Kai was a free spirit: he needed his space and
the NeoBorgs wouldn’t give it to him. They were a group in the first place and
individuals only inside of it. That was not something Kai could stand for long.
Why did he have to bother with them? After all,
he chose the BBA Team during the Championships in
In the end the young Japanese submitted: he
couldn’t really discuss with elders well. He preferred to avoid it, if
possible. A psychologist would say it was the effect of his grandfather’s
upbringing and Kai would agree. He realized most of his problems came from one
source; still, he didn’t believe, he needed any help. Maybe it was another
effect of his upbringing, but he wanted to deal with it on his own.
The NeoBorgs were preventing him from doing
that: with their very presence they reminded him of his mistake. They saw what
exactly Black Dranzer did to him, but none of them tried to understand. Not
that Kai expected them to – all he wanted from them was not to see them. It
wasn’t usually the case – even though it didn’t show, they must have had
somehow realized, how to annoy him best.
It wasn’t as if was too surprised – after all,
he grew up in the same place and could remember what it did to a person. How
easily it made one show his worst side – and they were no longer there.
Yet, he wanted to set himself free from under
the shadow of his grandfather and the four Russians prevented him from doing
so, in his opinion. All they did was reminding him of the Abby: dark corridors
and the complete lack of freedom. He could see it in their eyes: he should be
perfect, like every other child from the Abby; he should think like they did –
he should lock himself in the cage from which he was trying to escape from so
many years.
Just after the Championships, he was nearly
free: he could feel it. No more expectations, no more disappointed looks… He
had actual friends, who would help him, if he called them – even though he
would never say it out loud. Finally, he wasn’t bound with a chain to somebody,
but only a thin line.
However, when Chairman Datenji chose to drop
his former teammates on his head, everything stopped being so nice.
“Hey, Kai?” Yuriy’s voice broke through the
dual-haired teenagers thoughts.
“Hn.”
“You could bother and make yourself sound
interesting,” the redhead growled.
“Why are you still bothering, Yuriy?” Ivan’s
nasal voice joined.
“He’s annoying.”
“Everybody’s annoying,” Boris sounded harsh. He
did so, even when he was talking about weather.
“Even me?” Yuriy pretended to be flirting.
“Something in your eye?” the lilac-haired
adolescent answered boredly. To Kai it seemed like some sort of a game: Yuriy
pretended to flirt and Boris stayed uninterested, and both were satisfied,
since neither of them was interested in a relationship with the other. Still it
was hard to believe that the same person, who sent Rei to hospital, was joking.
“Did you want anything from me?” Kai asked
tiredly. One needed a saint’s patience to deal with that four.
“Yeah, we did,” Yuriy admitted. “Wouldn’t you
join us?”
Kai’s eyes snapped open. He looked at the
NeoBorgs. Yuriy seemed serious and rather annoyed – he probably had to force
himself to ask that question. Boris and Sergey were solemn as well. Only Ivan
was smirking, as if he already knew the answer.
It was quite tempting in a way – Team NeoBorg
promised power and Kai needed it. For one moment, he considered the
proposition, but finally he chose to stay with his team. Maybe it was
irrational, but he didn’t want to leave them.
“No,” he said flatly.
If he expected a display of disappointment, he
never received it – Yuriy merely shrugged and Ivan’s smirk grew wider. The
little snake must have been expecting that.
“If you want to be stupid…” the redhead said.
Then he stretched out his hand. “Still, if you ever change your mind…”
And Kai shook Yuriy’s hand in reply…

Well, the story is my version of “how come Kai knew
that the D-Boys would take him in to their team in G-Rev”, but it could be also
part of something else. Okay, I admit, I wrote it because I wanted to have an
excuse for writing what Kai might think of Yuriy.
