Lady's Page

I just got home from work on July 8, 2002 and I was sorting through the mail and the phone rings. It's an odd time for anyone to call. Dad's cell phone number shows up on the caller ID. Guess what! Mom and Dad are on their way to pick up a puppy. Dad has been talking on and off about getting a puppy for a few months. Finally, the time has come!
They brought home a young, red-haired, Golden Retriever and named her Lady. In just a few hours she wiggled her way into our hearts.
Before I go on, you must understand the house I grew up in. There was
ALWAYS a pet. A dog, a cat, at the very least, fish. We went through
a three month period when I was very young where we only had fish. We'd
just given away Golden Boy, a golden retriever cross that needed more room to
run. After that heartbreaking experience Dad didn't want to get attached
to another pet. That didn't last for long! Charles
came into our lives followed by Prince two weeks later.
The two of them entertained us with their antics. They would wrestle with
each other and sleep together. About six years later we added
Casey. Now there were three furballs. Mom
was wonderful, as it usually happens, most of the responsibility for household
pets falls on the mother. Endless hours of devotion were rewarded with
unconditional love and lots of purring and tail wagging. Three kids and three
pets made for a house full of activity!
Unfortunately, one of the sorrows that comes with the joys of pet ownership is that those pets eventually have to leave us. Charles was the first of the three to leave us for the Rainbow Bridge. Knowing that there was always room to love another furbaby, Homer joined the pack. Never a replacement, only another life to love. Shortly after, Prince joined Charles at the Bridge and once again a void had to be filled and a memory honored. Wiggum joined the pack in Prince's absence. Again we grieved for a furbaby when Casey joined his friends at the Bridge. All three had lead wonderfully happy and long lives and left us with fond memories to remember them by until we meet them again at the Bridge.
Now that we're back to present time, I'll continue with Lady's story. She joined Homer and Wiggum in a loving pet household where she will be spoiled with love. But wait! Not only does Lady join one household, she had 'cousins' too! Enter Kiss and Dexter. After four years of college and only seeing the pets on visits home, I had to have pets of my own as soon as I graduated. I live an hour and a half away and visit often. Five dogs fill up the house and backyard and provide many much needed laughs.
Lady's birthday is May 22, 2002.
