Description :
General : Standing before you would be a petite, lightly curvaceous woman of about 5'2," who is gently toned. Her wavy, lapis colored hair flows down to mid-back, obscuring the top half of a ceremonial tattoo that extends from her neck to the small of her back. Eyes a deep navy in color are spaced a little too far apart to be considered beautiful, but don't detract from her appearance either. Complementing them (or at least balancing them out), would be a pair of almost full lips and a ski-slope nose. Her skin is a light shade of coffee, as if someone poured a bit too much cream into her cup.
Tattoo: A large intricately designed water lily graces the entire back of Amalin. The lily itself is gold in color at the center, fading to a pastel yellow once it reaches the outermost petals. The round leaves (the lily pad) cup the flower, while the roots twine down forming ????? ??????? (for those who can't see unicode, it's simply her name written in Hindu) at the small of her back.
Casual : Amalin�s regular dress consists of a V-neck emerald green peasant blouse with a silver lotus design woven around the neckline and hemline of the shirt and expertly done. The blouse itself is actually more of a �half blouse,� seeing as the back consists of two sets of ties, one set comes together at her neck and the second at mid-torso. Why? To expose the tattoo, which marks her as a specific type of prophetess [see background for further info]. With this, she wears a pair of matching linen pants, solid in color with no designs. And, to top it all off, a pair of silver colored sandals are worn on her feet.
Formal : Her top, if you could call it a top, is a wide piece of fabric, emerald green in color with small gold and navy lotus blossoms woven into it. The fabric is draped about the back of her neck, the ends being brought forward where they cross (covering her bosom), then ending up tied together at the base of her waist in a secure knot. While this particular top looked like crap on Aguilera, it happens to look flattering on Amalin (really! ^^;;), plus it keeps most of her tattoo visible. To compliment that, she wears a matching sari, while gold sandals are her footwear of choice. The only jewelry she wears is a gold bangle on her upper right arm with the royal mandala engraved into it.
Personality Traits :
Can't Lie -- As a purifier, Amalin does her very best not to tell any lies. Lies aren't pure, so in her logic, if she utters them, she's not pure and therefore has to undergo a purification ritual each time she fibs. HOWEVER, she's also rationalized it's okay to tell half truths; as in only telling PART of the truth, because, after all, truth is truth, even if it's not all of it. It just means the person she's telling doesn't know the whole story. And no, white lies don't count 'cause that's actual lying, even if it'll save face.
Old Soul -- As it has been proven on Saturn, all souls there are reincarnated again and again and again. The soul in Amalin's body happens to be one of the oldest around. So while she's only 25, she talks and acts like someone much older. This is a plus, since she's trusted by many since she's an old soul, but on the other hand, she isn't really allowed to act childish (or her age) because of it.
Inquisitive -- This being the first time Amalin's been off of Saturn all of the sights, sounds, and people have aroused her curiosity. That and she's a bit nosy in her own right. While this may seem a bit unconventional for someone of Saturn, it is acceptable to be inquisitive if guidelines are followed. In other words, she won't ask prying, gossipy questions, ever. She won't ask questions during a formal event where it would be out of her station for her to do so. She can ask questions in informal occasions as long as they aren't intrusive. And she can ask questions if she's performing a purification and is trying to ascertain the whereabouts of an impure object/person. This is the only circumstance where'd she'd be permitted to ask a few personal questions, since it is her job to do so (and the people there would be made aware of this before she began).
Perceptive -- This has to do with the 'actions speak louder than words' principle of Saturn. Amalin is very perceptive when it comes to others. She can pick up on when someone says something, but his body's saying something else. Since she's just a courtier and isn't involved in some of the headier things the royalty is involved in, she has more time/chances to sit back and simply watch everyone.
Loyal -- She is, above all, loyal to Princess Padmavati. Since Padma's the only Saturnian royalty around, whatever the Princess says, goes. If Padma wanted Amalin to go jump off a cliff, Amalin would do it. On top of this, if any of the other royalty asks Amalin to do something, she'd first get Padma's approval before doing it. The only royalty who this doesn't apply to is Queen Selenity. She'll also obey Selenity, since everyone obeys her. ^^;;
Mother Hen -- Amalin has kind of taken it upon herself to act as mother hen to Padma. Granted, she's not terribly annoying about it or anything, Amalin just keeps a close eye on Padma to make sure the Princess is safe and not going to get herself into too much trouble.
Saturnian Values -- This is a bit of a time saver/cop out, but basically, Amalin upholds all values of the principles of Saturn. (The balance of mind, body, and spirit; Saturnian honor, etc.)
Background : Amalin was reborn. Strike that. The soul of the best known purifier was reborn into Amalin when Amalin was born to her mother and father, Pramada and Abhangu Basarat. This caused a bit of a stir among the prophets and the rest of the people of Saturn because every time this particular soul was reborn, something of Great Magnitude would occur during that person's lifetime. (cue dramatic music)
So needless to say, Amalin was watched very carefully and brought up quite close to the royal family, which occurred anyway since that Basarats were held in esteem by the royals. She was trained early on in the arts of both purifying and prophesying by other members of her family; earning her tattoo, which marked her as a purifier, bit by bit as she passed each of the training rites/rituals. The final piece of her tattoo, the roots which spelled out her name, were engraved on her flesh the day after her fifteenth birthday, which was also the last day of her training.
For the next ten years, Amalin would go about practicing her arts for the people of Saturn. Most of her time was devoted to purification, seeing as that particular art was performed heavily and was a Basarat House specialty. One would be hard pressed to find another House that could rival the Basarats' in purification. In particular, Amalin was to aid in the purification rituals of the royal family and their kin. This was part of the service her family was to perform for the royal House as part of that whole feudal get-up Saturn's got going. ^^;;
Now, onto the prophesying. Amalin doesn't prophesize too terribly much, but when she does, it's a doozy. Why? Because her prophesies are pure. There isn't any debate about what's seen in her prophecies and they come to pass just as she tells them. Her biggest prophecy of late was about the relations between Earth and the Moon Kingdom. She saw something of Great Magnitude, but for the first time it wasn't clear as to what it was. This became quite a big deal, since most thought the event of Great Magnitude was the rebirth of the Destroyer. That something even greater than THAT was going to occur was just about unheard of, except that Amalin saw it.
It was also important that what she saw was vague. Amalin's prophesies, the very few she's had, have been QUITE clear. She and her family consulted both other prophets and spiritualists and it was determined that whatever it was that was blocking her third sight must be met with head-on, for only then would she regain her inner balance. So when the time came to send courtiers with Princess Padmavati, Amalin was granted special permission due to her case. That, and the Priest-Queen Asha Gauri iya'Pratibha thought it might be beneficial to Queen Selenity if one of their most skilled purifiers was on hand to keep any negative forces away from the negotiations/politics between Moon & Earth. Or at least do her best to keep the negativity at bay.
Skills :
Purification -- This art is particularly well practiced by Amalin. She knows the entire ins and outs of the Saturnian purification rites and rituals. If you need someone or something to be purified, Amalin can do it and do it extremely well. Depending on what it is and how badly it/he/she needs to be purified methods involved include: intense bathing rituals, incense being placed in certain key points of a room, certain dietary regimes, to (if necessary) an exorcism, which are very rare.
Liar, Liar Pants on Fire -- Just as she herself cannot tell a lie, Amalin is quite good at figuring out when someone IS lying. Granted, this isn't fool-proof or 100% accurate. If someone is magically protected or warded in a way as to hide lies, Amalin probably won't pick up on it.
Spider-sense -- No, she can't sense danger, but she can sense 'negative forces.' It's her JOB to purify things, so she's naturally tuned to pick out discord and fix it. Again, she's not perfect. She might be able to sense it, but she's not always able to pinpoint it, especially if it's been shielded magically.
DISCLAIMER: I do realize Amalin won't work theme-wise after a certain point (mainly, when Yannike starts to go to the Dark Side). However, I am hoping, to [by that point in game] be worthy enough to play a feature character with Cal's permission, thus sending Amalin home to Saturn (or some other way of bringing her arc to a close) in order to write for the feature.
