RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

The main interest in surfactant science stems from their amphiphilic nature. Amphiphilic molecules are composed of two parts, one of which is the polar and water soluble, while the other is non-polar and oil soluble. Owing to this dual-character these molecules possess excellent surface activity and emulsifying properties, thereby find a wide spectrum of practical applications ranging from detergent to food to cosmeceutical industries to nano-material synthesis to fabrication of photonic and phosphor materials.

Surfactants in general and glycolipids in particular have been of our interest for a number of reasons. These include low HLB value, which means they possess excellent emulsifying properties that can help produce stable emulsions, creams and foams. They are highly biocompatible and cause no or minimum adverse effect on human if applied both externally and internally. Not to mention it gives a value added to the local palm oil industries.

Among on-going research activities conducted in this laboratory are,

1. Effect of molecular rigidity on oleic and stearic-stearate monolayer.

2. Texture Study Of Polymer Blend Emulsion Stabilized By Glycolipids For Cosmetic Application.

3. Rheological study of nanoliposome in cream emulsion.

4. Formation and Equilibrium Study of Perfluoroalkylated Fatty Acid mixed with glycolipids Vesicle in Aqueous Solution.

5. Dynamics of Fatty Acid Vesicle Formation in Emulsion System.

6. Dynamics equilibrium fatty acid interfacial tension at water-oil emulsion.

7. Dynamics Of Mixed Fatty Acids/Co-surfactant Vesicles Formation For Drug Encapsulation And Slow Release Study.

8. Encapsulation And Slow Release Study of Water Soluble Drugs By Polymerics Brush-Like Chitosan Vesicles.

9. Designing nanoliposome from unsaturated long chain fatty acid—stealth lipid mixture

10. Study of Set Cement Expansion-Shrinkage Under Surface and Oil Wells Down Hole Conditions.
