Community Services


Fire Protection: The band has a water delivery truck with limited fire fighting capabilities and a fire control pack. The volunteer fire department has six trained fire fighters.


Police Protection: The nearest RCMP detachment is in Selkirk, and there are two 3B constables assigned to it. The band employs two band constables.


Hydro: Service is provided by land line.


Postal Service: Three times a week via Northway Aviation.

The band also has a community health representative on-reserve. The nearest hospital is in Hodgson. The dentist visits the reserve once a month at the Nursing Station. The doctor has monthly doctor's clinics.


Infrastructure
Water Supply: All water is extracted from the Bloodvein River. The water is chlorinated and distributed to residents and local centres via tanker truck. The teacherages, nursing station, residence, and RCMP facilities utilize a distribution system. The school utilizes a pump house and wet well. The pump house was upgraded and the water line expanded to a number of homes along the new water line.


Sewage Disposal: The school and teacherages have a lagoon operated by the band. Along with the new water line that was installed for a number of the homes, a new sewage system was also installed. A new lagoon, which serves the whole community was built a safe distance from the community.


Garbage Disposal: There is a landfill site on-reserve.


Roads: There are 5.2 kilometres of internal roads. There is no permanent road access to the reserve, although a winter road network is constructed each year which runs along the east shore of Lake Winnipeg to the Island Lake area.


Communications
The band receives radio from Winnipeg stations and the Interlake area.
Telephone service is provided with a single-party exchange.

Head office is in Winnipeg; Director is Burma Bushie. The agency has been mandated since April 1983; it serves eight bands and there are less than a hundred children in care.

Education: Miskooseepi School is the school serving the Nursery/Kindergarten to Grade 9 population of approximately 220 students in Bloodvein River. Staff numbers about 35 Full time Equivalent positions, including bus drivers and truant officers.
