Ribnik
Ribnik,
a fortified burg southwest of Ozalj. In the 13th and
the
14th centuries the Ribnik estate was owned by the Babonics
and by
Viceroy Mikac, from 1394 by the Frankopans. The present
burg
was erected during the reign of the Frankopans. From 1576
it was
owned by the Zrinski family, later by Counts Petazzi;
from
1839 it was the property of F. Vukasovic, the constructor
of the
Louisian road, and J. Gall, who maintained the burg in
the
19th century, so that it has been preserved until now. -
Ribnik
lies in the valley of the Obvrh brook, surrounded by a
moat
with a fishpond, and was accessed by a suspension bridge.
It was
built as a two-storey building, partly of well cut
stone,
with a ground-plan in the shape of an irregular circle;
the
inner courtyard has arcades. The defence tower (near the
original entrance) with the coat of arms of the Frankopans was
very
high; opposite of it is a pentagonal tower with a tile
stove.
Between both towers are the structures arranged as a
wreath.
The burg has a series of well preserved late Gothic
and
Renaissance architectural details (door-posts, windows,
loopholes, gargoyles).
