Male or Female?
Snakes
Most of the time snakes need to be probed to determine the sex. But with many snakes males have much longer skinnier tails than females. Female snakes usually get much larger than males but just because a snake is big doesn't make it a female, could just be a big male. There are a few species of snake such as the leaf nosed snake that have different body characteristics or colors between sexes.
Lizards
Most lizards are alot like birds in that males are much colorful and have more body decorations than females( such as green iguanas). Unlike most snakes, many lizards look very different when older than their young. But many females will usually stay very fermiliar to how babies look (such as water dragons). Some lizards have dark circles on the bottom of their back legs. Most of the time, if they have them at all or they are large, it is most likely a male. Some lizards, such as monitors, have no external clues as to the sex and need to be probed. Most male lizards are a bit larger than females but sometimes sexes average at the same size.
Chelonians
Most aquatic turtles and land turtles (such as box turtles) are easy to determine the sex when they become mature. Male aquatic turtles have very long claws and long tails. Land turtles also have very long tails. Sea turtles and tortoises are also the same in their tail length. Some turtles, such as the red belly turtle, sometimes have different colors between the sexes. Some male chelonians grow larger than females and some female chelonians grow larger than males.
Crocodilians
Crocodiles, aligators, and gharail must be probed to determin the sex. Females are usually smaller than males.
Amphibans
Most of the time, amphibian species do not show much of a difference in all between sexes. There are sometimes tiny differences such as some male frogs will have spots on their throat. Many male frogs and toads can chirp but some females can too. With som species females grow much bigger than males (such as pacman frogs) but with some amphibians males can grow larger.
