| Scientific name: Uromastyx maliensis Gourp: Origin: Saharan Desert and Egypt Average life span: 30 years Disposition: Malis are very docile lizards. They can be quite skittish but with frequent handeling they will be more calm when handled. They will rarley use their defence which is their large spikey tail but it is possible that they would. Size: 15 to 18 inches Heating/Humidity: Basking spot should be around 120 degrees. The other end of the cage should be about 85 degrees. Temperatures should drop about 20 degrees at night. Humidity is no good for these lizards. Aim for none at all. No humidity means sheding will be harder so give Malis baths atleast once a month especialy when sheding. UVB light is needed. Housing: Babies can be housed in as small as a 10 gallon tank. A minimum for an adult would be a 50 gallon tank. -Sand is the best subsrate for Malis. You could also use newspaper or bird seed. You can buy cheap play sand or calci sand which is made for reptiles. -Hides are needed. Be sure there are hides on the hot end and the cool end. -Malis do not climb but rocks in which they can climb on are ok. -No water is needed for Malis. They get all their moisture from their food. When they are given their baths they will be able to drink then as well. Feeding: Malis should be strict plant eaters. Many people feed them insects but this can lead to kidney problems. They can eat many vegetables such as frozen mixed vegies, carrots, lima beans, corn and so on. Fruits can be offerd occasionaly. Dandelion flowers and cactus are also safe and loved by Malis. |
