UVB
What is UVB?
A kind of ultraviolet light from the sun. Coming from the sun, it can be harmful to humans, it can even cause skin cancer. But comercialy made UVB bulbs is a must for many reptiles. Vitamin D3 comes from the rays and goes into the reptile's body. For the species that need UVB rays, if they do not get them, they do not recieve any of the D3 vitamin which will cause it to develop MBD (medobolic bone disease). If MBD is not treated the reptiles body may deform and the animal will die a slow death. Fixing MBD will be a very expensive procedure. So if you purchase an animal that requires UVB, make sure it gets it.
Natural sun or UVB lights?
Natural sun is the best for reptiles. But outside is not always best. It may not be warm enough, there are predators, many bugs that could harm a reptile, if it were to escape you may never see it again, and other reasons. So why not just set the cage next to a window? Because UVB rays can not go threw glass, nor plexi glass. Therefore UVB lights are needed, even though they are quite expensive, an animal that needs them will not live without it.
UVA, UVB?
Many bulbs are out there that say UVA, but if you know your animal needs UVB, forget about buying that bulb. Correct UVB lights are strips and need to be placed in the long hoods. UVA is not as strong as UVB and will be useless to the animal.

After 6 months UVB lights stop giving out the same amout of UVB rays they were before, therefore they must be thrown away. So keep track some where of when you buy your uvb lights so you will remember when the 6 months is up
