Carol C.

She's a little short but full-bodied. Moderately long hair, soft, smooth face, about the same complexion as self, but maybe a shade darker. Soft, baby eyes, a tightish little warm smile and a dense aura of freshness and innocence, she's lovely. Man! She belongs.

When talking to her yesterday, I had a close warmth from her wash over me. There was this permanent laughter about her, like she was real happy to see me. It made me feel almighty nice.

I have a feeling I could hit off with Carol. God be my guide, Nature be my mentor, Providence be my aid, Carol be my alma-mater!

Wednesday, 10 June 1993.

Then, finally, finally - after those mind-teases - we were announced, "Mr M'hango and The Explosive Sounds Unlimited Sky Jam Star Dash Band...."

We walked on. Applause.

"Man cannot live on bread alone... he also needs some tea, you know (laughter) - and music!"

Then I crashed into the opening chords of "My Shield."
Man! It went! Applause all over. Then, easily, steadily, I nudged into Bye-Bye. They stood there, listening, as we rolled gently through the ballad.

Then, when we came to the last "bye-bye" fast-pace part, the whole assembly went aflame - everybody was singing!! The whole square was afire! Alright!!

We walked off in a dense cloud of applause.

13 October, 1989.

I will now tell you of two most wonderful experiences I had. These came two days apart. The first came one night when I couldn't sleep because I was having such sweet thoughts. I sleep with grandma, and she was snoring in her bed. I slept on my stomach, as always, just wallowing in those dreamy thoughts. Then suddenly, a noise like that which comes when you dip your head under water plugged my ears and I felt light. You remember that thing of getting out of your body? Well, that's precisely what was happening. But, for the first time, I was doing it consciously!

I was turning onto my back without moving, I mean turning just like that! Then I realised, it was something inside me turning and not my body. Then, for the first time in my life, I heard myself snoring! Have you ever heard yourself snoring? I rose up, floating upwards till I was almost touching the roof with my back. Then I opened my eyes and tried to see my body. But I couldn't see because it was too dark, I could only make out the outline of it sleeping on the bed below! And I was whispereing to myself: "I am having an OOBE consciously for the first time!"

I wafted out of the house and floated round the yard a while, accompanied by two other people, Jerry and - believe it or not - Emelda! They floated beside me and disappeared later. Then I got back into my body.

But one unfortunate thing is that I did not do it fully consciously, only half, but after the OOBE (Out Of Body Experience) I came fully awake, my heart hammering. I tell you I wasn't dreaming!

The second OOBE came two days after the first. It was just beginning to dawn. I lifted out of my body and paused near the roof, as at first, then I floated round the room. I tried to get through the wall but couldn't diffuse through it.

I floated over the clothes line, and I saw all the clothes in their brilliant colours. I saw grandma yawning in her bed; she didn't see me passing over her. I floated about about and saw everything in detail and exactly as it ws in the room. The only inconsistencies were that the walls were brick instead of metal-sheet, the light was too bright compared to the feeble dawn light and the cloth in the doorway was green instead of the grey-black it is.

November, 1985.

Today, this evening, I got the craziest call since I first lifted a phone receiver.

Rrrrrrrriiiiinng
"Hello?"
"This is Lulu. How are you?"
"I am alright - how are you?"

The voice was very high and child-like. The stock was most likely coloured - highly naturalised chongs.

"You know I really like you. Can we meet at Big Bite?"
"...."
"Don't worry, I'll pay. Can we meet tomorrow?"

My mind was a whirl.

"Where are you calling from?"
"Never mind. Can we meet?"
"Tomorrow? It's a working day."
"Will you be working?"
"Yah."
"Can't we meet?"
"You can come to my place."
"What time do you knock off?"
"I am home by 18:00 hrs - you can come after 18:00 hrs."
"I am very good at making sex. Come with condoms."

My mouth dropped, John Dong rose.

"What's that?"
"What for? You don't know what condoms are for?"
"Oh, yah."
"So, I'll see you."

I had been cooking the time that call came. I went back to the kitchen - I do not know whether I've ever been bewildered as I was now.

It wasn't 4 minutes - the phone rang again. Another high-pitched voice - a woman's, I thought - unmistakably Indian.

"Hello?"
"You've been speaking to Lulu?"
"Yah."
"You were speaking to a married woman. She's my wife. You called her?"
"She called me."
"I'll beat her up. Thankyou very much. You are a good man. I'll repay you."

The frowns of bewilderment on my forehead crowded up. Back in the kitchen, it wasn't 5 minutes:

Rrrrrrrrrrrriiiinnng!
It was Lulu again.

"Did my husband call you?"
"Yah."
"He's a stupid bastard."
"Lulu - do you know who you are talking to?"
"Yes."
"What's my name?"
"Misheck."
"Where did you meet me?
"I met you somewhere. Hey, am going - my husband is coming. Bye."

11 August, 1991.

By and by, the competition came to an end and we started back. Once again it ws three of us in the van, A pleasant, if speedy, ride from Chililabombwe. We dropped K off at her home, and proceeded on.

Then, something totally unexpected, unimagined, happened. Something of great import. It was just about half an hour after we had left K. We had just driven past the crowded market-place at Mukolwe's in Ndola Rural near Luanshya when....

The vehicle suddenly swerved to the right lane of the road. I had been looking away, and was just in time to see L.M.K. frantically swinging it back to the left. And I also saw, that we were bound to over-shoot the road, being that we were not travelling slowly at all. And that was the last image I had - then I blacked out.

As I regained my consciousness, the first thought that came into my mind was that we had crashed. I sensed that I - we - were in a resting position, and I was rather confined. Then I heard a babble of excited voices.

By and by, sombody came to retrieve me. I do not remember experiencing any particular pain on the spot, but I had trouble opening my left eye due to much bleeding there. I remember the image of the vehicle upside-down, though, facing our direction of origin. I remember those wheels in the air.

There was a van parked there in the road. I was helped into the back of it.

My friend, I noted, was brought in from a different direction. I also noted that, unlike me, he was not walking on his two legs. He had some bruises and cuts, he looked dazed and his face disaligned-like.

Villagers surrounded the van and one or two shook my hand, saying "Mwapusukeni."

After L.M.K. had been brought in, my first words to our rescuer were, "The radio." He went and came back and said it was damaged beyond repair. I asked him to get our bags, which he did. And then the bandages we had carried for the competition.
