One thing that would be really slick is to have a webpage that shows every ship, in a reasonable amount of detail, with screenshots. Here's some output from an early, and pretty bad, prototype of such a system.
Here's a build of Example 2 from the Masking Library. It has most of the widgets and things that Masking can show. This zip file has every compiled (for windows) and ready to go. Run ex02.exe to get started. To make a skin, have a look at the file skin2.html. There's a pile of skins in /skins, which you can use as examples or templates. To use your own, edit ./allegro.cfg, change the line:
skinPath = skins/KDE2.inito the relative path to wherever your skin is located. You can use grabber.exe to package up the images, sounds, etc.
MASkinG's homepage is here: http://ferisrv5.uni-mb.si/~ma0747/html/masking.html . Here's some screenshots of what the new interface looks like: Main Menu, Local game settings.
Here's a gimp-perl script that can make 64 jpgs with black backgrounds into 64 24-bit bitmaps with pink backgrounds. You'll need gimp (www.gimp.org) and perl (www.perl.org).
