| "Man is everywhere a disturbing agent. Whevever he plants his foot, the harmonies of nature are turned to discords." -George Perkins Marsh You seem to still carry quite a bit of resentment for your former girlfriend. Is that situation something that will stay with you for awile, or is it just because you dislike people so much that you dwell upon it? I probably do dwell upon it too much. It's probably just because it turned into a shitty situation and I can't help but wonder if my next relationship might turn out the same way. Does that scare you at all? I'd be lying if I said "no". But I can't control the future; I can't change the past, either. Going back to when you mentioned that you play in a softball league, that doesn't seem like something that someone who doesn't like people would engage in. Why do you play? I suppose that it's just because I enjoy the sport. I like the guys on my team, though, so that probably sounds a bit odd. A few of the guys on the other teams seem to be stuck in high school mentally, however, because they act as if a winning record is going to advance them to the state playoffs or something. All that it is is a local church league. So you're non-denominational, you think that organized religion is more problematic than it is useful, yet you play on a church league team? Does it seem hypocritical? Actually, the church itself doesn't come into play. It's really just a group of guys who play softball. Since you ARE willing to socialize with people to play softball, it seems as if there's a chance that you aren't completely misanthropic. I suppose that I socialize with people for personal gains, of sorts. Overall, though, I think that as a race, humans just continue to be the scurge of the planet. I'm not going to deny that there are a few who can act responsibly, intelligently, and with common sense. It's just that the vast majority are irresponsible, stupid, and have little or no common sense. Do you think that it's hereditary? I would say so, to a certain extent, anyway. Even if it doesn't come from the parents' genes, it comes from their actions and how they raise their kids. Then those kids grow up, become adult assholes, and have kids of their own to start the process all over again. Being that I've worked as a substitute teacher for almost two years now, in just that little time I've seen how immature a lot of parents act. When these parents were in school, they had that Eminem "fuck you" attitude toward everything, and now that their kids have that attitude, too, the parents see no problem with it because they're still trapped in that primitive mind set. I know several full-time teachers who have considered other professions because many parents are just constantly giving them grief. I had a situation a little over a year ago where I told a couple of eighth-graders to pick up garbage that they had thrown across the room. I told them that if they didn't pick the stuff up that I'd write their names down for the regular teacher so that she would know what had happened. Well, lo and behold, the next day their parents came in to see the principal because they were offended that I would pick on their wonderful children. The one boy's father stated that he, as a parent, was a strict disciplinarian and that his son would never step out of line. Bullshit. I just hope that he tries using that line on the cops when his son is later arrested for selling crack to first-graders. You don't like kids much, huh? I'm not looking at it in terms of age. I just don't like idiots much, and the bullshit that they bring with them. I've met a lot great kids as well as adults. I've also met even more moronic kids and their moronic parents. Do you hope to have kids someday? I don't even have a significant other right now, so kids aren't even a thought. Does a person who dislikes so many people even WANT a significant other, and if so, why? Perhaps I'm not completely misanthropic...just more so than most people. If I meet someone who sparks my interest I wouldn't shy away. She would most likely have a personality similar to mine. Is there a woman out there who is like that? Scary, isn't it? I don't know if she's out there or not. Hell, my soulmate is probably some Eskimo woman who lives up around the Arctic Circle. What are you going to do about that? I don't know. Maybe wear seal-skin coats and smear my body with whale blubber. I'm sure I'd look dead sexy covered in an inch of fat. We haven't yet touched upon your opinion of colleges and universities. Since you spent about 5 or 6 years in college, shouldn't you support these institutions? I have nothing against higher learning, but most universities are a joke today, simply because the majority of the professors do just that - they profess. They don't really "educate" anyone, per se, they just rattle off their political ideas and throw in a few false "facts." For example, I had one government professor who insisted that Major League Baseball had better attendance figures than Nascar events. Now I like baseball more than Nascar, but Nascar averages 120,000 people per race and the Montreal Expos and Florida Marlins are worried about relocation due to poor attendance figures. I guess he was right, though, being the professor. I also had an American Literature prof who seemed to dislike me after he discovered that I listened to Rush |
