“A strong physical Theatre Performance” – Sharon Hogan, QUT Performance Studies “A complex yet strong script and an exciting performance” – Mark Radvan, QUT Performance studies “One of the best performances” – Gabby Le Braun, Masters Student In Drama Teaching, QUT Indeed the physical theatre presentation of The Stadium was a welcome change from the other plays that were presented during the Performance 1 performances at QUT. Director Amelia was able to capture the essence of the script by Vadi PVSS without any props but with strong images projected on the screens and sheer physical efforts of the performers. Demoa, then 19, escaped the clutches of her husband and the Taliban in 1999. She found new life in Nasser – her husband in Pakistan. It is 2004. She is 9 months pregnant. Against all advice she returns to Afghanistan to see her two kids of her previous husband. In a country where the new constitution is still being written and women’s rights are being formulated and understood, she is arrested and detained under the Sharia law for bigamy, as her former husband refuses to accept any divorce proceedings from her. In detention she goes through labour – unaided. Finally ,women from the AWN find her detention cell to set her free . But is it all too late by then? This is Demoa’s story.
