Yet another new venue for the South London Rockers, this time moving north-west to Hounslow for a bank holiday weekend gig. Support was from Jamie Rogers, a singer songwriter from Feltham, who played a simple yet effective acoustic set. By the time the headline band came on, the audience was sparse to say the least. A disappointment for MIRMIS, as they had worked so hard to get this far. But oddly enough, where previous shows had been lacking in performance when the audience was small, tonight's gig could have possibly been the best gig they have done, musically. They were tight, controlled and totally professional. Totally at ease with material new and old, no new numbers were previewed tonight, but the 3 newest tracks had already begun to develop, with NOT YOU proving to get stronger and stronger as each gig goes by. Another notable in this set was the opening song, ALICE which had always been mid set, this time proved a strong an opening as any, with RIDE THE WAVE being the mid set filler. Otherwise the rest of the set was as strong as normal, and some of the songs missing from the previous gig had returned where MIRMIS had a little more freedom to express and improve all their numbers. On occasion it seemed like a rehearsal gig, but if it was the case, MIRMIS could have a cause to sell tickets to their rehearsal, such is the strength of this band now. Greater things must beckon and now MIRMIS have an identity which isn’t set in stone, and they are showing that almost any type of material in the rock sphere could be rubber stamped with the MIRMIS sound. If they were about 30 years ago, they would have been big. Maybe the current music scene in Britain will adapt to take them on board.
