| This is a very special year in the Miss Hong Kong history, as there is no semi-final and the show was very long compared to past MHK's. The show has a length of 3+ hours (including commercials) and there were luckily enough segments for the girls (and judges and ofcourse the audience =p). The introducery part was very nice. I wished the girls would have talked live, instead of pre-recording their voices. The clips which were shown were very nice, most girls looked very natural without the heavy make up, and they showed families/relatives/friends of the contestants. The white evening gowns were beautiful, except #9 Lulu's, which was clearly too sexy. Almost all the girls looks nice. I will give this segment 8.5/10. The Mc's were Eric Tsang and Nat Chan. Both are famous Miss Hong Kong MC's but I wished TVB could use Philip Chan and other 'better' MC's like Cheng Tan-Sue and Ho B. But that is just my opinion. Nat did a great job, he backed Eric for a few times. Eric had made a few mistakes... I think u guys had noticed them as they were quite big mistakes. I will rate the MC's 6/10. The choose-your-own-costum segment was nice done. Although some girls did a bad choice imo, this segment was very cool to watch. The girls danced along with the 6 Olympic Stars: Kenny Ma, Raymond Lam, Sammuel Chan and 3 other guys (sorry!! forgot their names tiem!)... The best girls in this segment imo are #4 Jaymee, #6 Kate, #12 Sze Sze, #16 Emily and #17 Bonnie. Overall I will give this section a 8.5/10. "Red-dance-dance-dance" was the next segment. The girls danced (is it salsa?!) in beautiful red gowns. One can clearly see which girls can dance better... The best girls in dancing imo would be #4 and #6. The contestants danced and they said what their ambitions are (pre-recorded again). I think it was quite unfair to have so much dancing segments, as a MHK doesn't need to be a good dancer imo. 8/10. Next is the "Chinese-culture" segment. This segment was quite dull, because the 18 girls came non-stop one after eachother and there was no pause... The contestants said (pre-recorded again) what a good Chinese woman should poses. The girls were dressed in beautiful oriental gowns, but unfortunately, #8 Winnie and #10 Flora got a longer dress, which made the dress looked bad. I like the music of this segment, very Chinese like :) 7/10 The " Elegance" segment was quite good. The girls said (pre-recorded AGAIN) things about being elegant and they wore black/white gowns. I need to say that it was unfair that some girls (#6 Kate, #18 Jacqueline) got beautiful gowns, while other girls (#9 Lulu, #12 Sze Sze, #17 Bonnie) got ugly gowns... This segment was quite mysterious =P 7/10. The short interviews were really short and I found the questions quite lame. The answers of the girls were average, some did better than others. The best girls in q&a imo are #3 Candy, #5 Cecilia, #9 Lulu, #13 Eunice and #15 Emmy. Some girls who got a hard time were #1 Queenie and #8 Winnie. The rest of the girls were ok lah. The questions were based on the essay of the girls, which they wrote themselves. 6.5/10. Then it was time to watch the performance of Gigi Leung, Hacken Lee and the 18 contestants. It was not that spectacular and Gigi went off key a lot... Hacken did a great job like always. The girls were dressed in so-so evening gowns, however, their hairstyle was UGLY. And I mean it... 18 children came on stage and each of them got flowers in their hands. So each girl should have been receiving a bouqet.. BUT Bonnie didn't got one.. I am sure she got one during the rehearsels, but I think one child was too nervous or something so she went off stage with the bouqet in her hands! Luckily, Bonnie was not too shocked and walked away in a very elegant style :) This segment was so-so... 6/10 After that it was time to announce the top 8 and the Internation Goodwill award. This award was given to #6 Kate. The girls wore bikini's (who doesn't fit most girls... too little clothes. Anyway, the top 8 were #14 Kayee, #7 Tiffany, #9 Lulu, #18 Jacqueline, #12 Sze Sze, #10 Flora, #6 Kate and finally #1 Queenie. I need to say that I am really dissapointed with the top 8, and some girls really shouldn't belonged there. The top 8 just needed to do interviews. The questions were better this time and also the length of the air time was improved. #9 Lulu shined and so was #12 Sze Sze, which was funny! #1 Queenie was not very articulate. #7 Tiffany had a hard time. #18 Jacqueline had a bad interview too. The other girls were ok :) But I think the interview segment could be better, it was quite dull afterall.. 7/10. After the interviews it was time to watch the performance of Moses Chan, Shirley Yeung, Bernice Liu, Anne Heung, Mandy Cho, tvb dancers and don't forget the 18 contestants! The subject was the ceremony of "Miss Hong Kong Beauty University". Shirley Yeung could better stop singing as her singing was horrible (all singing were pre-recoreded). So was Anne Heung (still better than Shirley tho!). Anne performed some classic Chinese dance along with Bernice Liu, while Shirley performed a rap dance along with Moses. Mandy Cho and Moses Chan performed some sexy dances... Very NOT MHK-like... Mandy is a bad singer too. Finally the 18 contestants came out and danced... Some past MHK winners came on stage and shared their experiences. The MHk's were Lee Ka-Wai (1995 2nd), Winnie Young (1995 winner), Myolie Wu (1999 3rd), Sonija Kwok (1999 winner) and Victoria Jane Jolly (2002 2nd). Altho the artists sung quite bad, the show was nice to watch. 8/10. Back to the girls... After the nice show it was time to announce the Photogenic award. Again, #6 Kate got it. Selena Li presented that award and she looked stunning!! Then it was time to announce the top 4 (which made NO sense at all). After a cruel battle (I doon't even want to mention the battle lol) the top 4 were #1 Queenie, #6 Kate, #9 Lulu and #12 Sze Sze. The 4 remaining girls talked about their experiences (not pre-recorded... YES!!) and they did well. MC Eric Tsang made fun of #12 Sze Sze (again), which was quite stupid imo. 7/10 Ok, the last part... The results!! I think everyone knew that #6 Kate will take the crown, so it was excititng to see who will stand left to her (why no top 5 tvb? top 4 is such a cruel thing!!)... Anyway, Priscilla Chi (Doi-doi looked stunning!) came on stage and 2nd runner up of MHK 2004 is... #12 Sze Sze!! She had a great night and she is very well rounded (except the.... voice). Then it was time to crown the 1st runner... Rabee'a came on stage (she looked stunning too!!) and #1 Queenie was the lucky lady who is the 1st runner. She is a great contestant overall, but her performance was BELOW average. Finally, Mandy Cho came on stage and after her speech (which was pre-recorded again lol) it was time to announce the new Miss Hong Kong. I think #9 Lulu already knew that she was not the lucky lady.... And yea, the lucky lady of 2004 is Kate! She shined all night and she deserves to be the new Miss Hong Kong. Congrats!! :) |
