Solar Eclipse 11.08.1999
We had our observationpoint near Oberwart in Burgenland, Austria. Unfortunately, the weather wasn t as good as expected and hoped for. Nevertheless there were enough holes in the clouds so that we were able to watch the eclipse nearly for the whole time.
We had lots of stuff (photo, videocamera and a small telescope), so we were pretty busy, but everything went fine and we had a great time;
An experience I would t have missed for anything in the world!
The spetacular - at least the astronomical one - began at 11:23 MESZ. The media spectacular started weeks prior, everyone was talking about the eclipse and there was made a huge event out of it..
The maximum    12:46
Our observation-point
The surounding area right after the maximum
You can find a great page about this eclipse and eclipses in general on the homepage of the
Institute for Astronomy - University of Vienna
There you will also find information on the phenomenon of the so called "flying shodows" and you can even watch a film that shows this wavelike shadows, which brightnesses  are only 3% lower than that of the background.
