The battlefield

As I open my eyes for the first time since that wicked warp in time, I look around me in wonder.

I am in what appears to be an abandoned battlefield. It hasn't been abandoned for long though. I can still smell the blood that is slowly flowing through the open field. Vultures are circling above the corpses lying scattered across the field. They look like knights from the middle ages to me. Wait a minute, they ARE knights. I walk towards one of the corpses for a closer look.

Yes, it sure is a knight. His helmet is lying next to his bashed and bleeding skull. His eyes stare at me in a frozen scream of fear and pain. Carefully I step back, afraid he will sit up and yell at me. Nothing happens.

I look up at the sky. Dark clouds rush through the damp air, hurryinng towards nothing. It's going to rain soon. The vultures feel the rain coming too, and hurry away looking for a dry place to protect them from the upcoming rain.
I don't really feel the need to hide. I want to see the faces of these knights, their eyes looking at the sky in horror, their mouths silently screaming for help.

What happened....I can only guess.
It is starting to rain. The falling drops of rain slowly wash the blood off the field with it's dead knights. As I walk through this brand new cemetery, I notice the sign on the breastplates and shields of these warriors. It's a red dragon flying through the sky. That sign is the same on every man that is laying here. Was this some kind of evil war? Or were these men opposing something else, something stronger?
Maybe it was to protect that grey stone castle in the distance, a barely visible building on the horizon. I don't know.

Rain is pouring down now. I better get inside a house or something. Why not try that castle?
And so, carefully stepping over the dead knights, I walk away into the distance.
