I just came here this morning
crossed the great plains last night
had a little nightmeal in Cheyenne
now the hills are revealed
to my eyes

I am not concerned with religion
but the history of this land
so I just had to be a witness
to the things
I cannot understand

Betrayed by the gold
the Sioux lost the Black Hills
if I had been there with him
I would shoot to kill
Black Hills
(Ottershagen)

They made parks for the buffalo
to preserve an illusion
of the old west
and they made faces
of the mountains
to prove the white man
is the best

There is no Sioux
up in the hills
a sacred place
where he cannot be
and to fulfill humiliation
they named the State Park
after his biggest
enemy

Betrayed by the gold
the Sioux lost the Black Hills
if i had been there with him
I would shoot to kill

There'd been no casinos
nor golf courses
no fat tourists
riding Indian horses
pretending to be
one of Custers men
if they had the chance
they would do it again
if they had the chance
they would do it again
and again
