(9.23.05) Edited slightly. Volume 18 of RK has finally hit the states and I'll be collecting from here on out so maybe as I reread it I'll become a little bit more motivated... So why Enishi? I mean he is a villian right? He's insane and evil and is trying to make our Kenshin sad right? So why Enishi? I don't believe Enishi was born evil. Villians nowadays are given no characterization, and are just evil b/c they are. This, my friends, is retarded. Enishi is no such character. He has so much depth. His character speaks to me because he is not just evil. He is human and is suffering horribly. As a person I am an empath, I always have been. And when I read this manga for the first time I felt so much compassion towards him, I felt his rage and his needs and his sadness... Enishi has had to go through so much in his life. His mother died giving birth to him, and his sister died in front of his eyes. His entire happiness has been taken away from him through no fault of his own. Enishi has such a need for survival. After everything, he survives. He survives on dead bodies and mud for for a while. That. is. survival instinct. It's remarkable and admirable.. It's gross, horrible, almost inhuman, and not honorable. But it is admirable. The slaughtering of the family that took him in and tried to make him happy is obviously not excusable, but not complely nonunderstandable (I just made up that word didn't I?). Not to the point where I would have done it, but he has a lot of pent up anger and jealousy due to the things that have happened to him. Enishi is just so... human. He takes his rage, his jealousy, his hatred, and uses his own keen intellect to devise a plan that is incredible. Enishi knows what he wants and how to get it. He made himself strong through his own means, and accomplished so much on his own. He never really worries at all about his own happiness. The whole time, all he thinks about is getting revenge for his sister so that she may be at peace in the afterlife. Enishi is also unable to kill Kaoru, and he treats her very well when he kidnaps her. He even protects her from being shot. Even though the Seisouhen is not exactly how Watsuki imagined RK to go, the moment when Enishi says he was trying to save Tomoe is so moving. I know great acting when I hear it, and Enishi's pain struck me deep in my body. In the end he reads Tomoe's diary and we are led to believe he will live a life of retribution for the crimes he has committed, meaning that once he read the diary and realized the truth, he lost his urge for revenge on Kenshin. Plus, and this is really bad I know, but seriously, have you taken a good hard look at him? I mean he's built like mad and he's got green eyes to die for. I could just.... well lets leave what I could do out of this So this is why I chose Enishi. If you still don't get it, I'm sorry, but in my opinion he's just an amazing guy. You're welcome to leave here, I didn't force you to come. |
