| Enishi's mother died of complications right after Enishi was born. His sister, Tomoe, who was eight, became a mother figure to him and helped raise him. Enishi loved his sister almost to an obsessive point. When he was around ten, Tomoe was set to marry a middle-class man named Kiyosato Akira. Enishi at first hated the idea of another man taking his sister away from him, but eventually he became okay with it out of respect for his sister's happiness. Tomoe was unable to tell Akira she loved him out of shyness and Akira assumed Tomoe did not think he was good enough. In order to prove he was, he went to Kyoto, Japan. There he was assassinated by a man named Hitokiri Battousai. Hearing of this Tomoe went into a deep depression, and joined a ninja clan named Yaminobu and went to Kyoto to take revenge on the Battousai. Tomoe became close to the Battousai to find a weakness, onl;y to fall in love with him. Because of circumstances happening in Kyoto, Tomoe and Himura Kenshin, the "Battousai", must pretend to be a married couple, but they decide to get married for real. Unknown to Tomoe, Enishi also joins the same ninja group to also get revenge. He is sad because his sister is sad, although he is secretly a little happy that he does not have to lose his sister to another man. He visits Tomoe while she is hiding with Kenshin, and is very confused when she defends and supports him. Tomoe tells Enishi to go back home and to not be involved in the Yaminobu. Angry and confused, Enishi leaves, but does not leave the Yaminobu. When it is time for Tomoe to give her report on the weakness of the Battousai, she lies and says he is vulnerable while he is sleeping. The leader, Tatsumi, sees through this lie and tells her they meant to use her all along to become the Battousai's weakness. Kenshin finds out that Tomoe is a spy from a fellow member and is ordered to kill her. He finds out that he was the one who killed her first fiancee. Confused Kenshin goies out to where Tomoe is. Enishi is there also, and watches Kenshin fight Tatsumi. Tomoe, in order to save her husband, comes in between the two fighters just as Kenshin goes to strike a lethal blow. He slashes Tomoe as she slashes Tatsumi, and Tomoe dies in Kenshin's arms. Enishi, seeing these events, assumes that Kenshin killed Tomoe on purpose. He is devastated to the point of insanity and leaves Japan for China. In China he has no home and no money and China is littered with the diseased and the dead. Enishi is forced to eat dead bodies and drink mud for nourishment. He contracts many diseases, but through it all he is kept alive by his sister, who, in his mind, is telling him to take revenge on the Battousai for her death. Enishi is eventually found by a wealthy Japanese family living in China and they cure him and take care of him. Enishi, unable to see a family so happy as this one is, slaughters them. He then uses their wealth to work his way up to the top of the Chinese mafia. During this time he also lears his sword style Watojutsu, which he taught himself. Enishi used his position at the top of the Chinese mafia to plan his "Jinchuu." Jinchuu means "Vengance of Man" which is a take off of Tenchuu, "Vengance of Heaven" which Kenshin's assassin group used as their signature when they killed. Enishi finds five other people who also want revenge on the Battousai, and together they go back to Japan to carry out their Jinchuu. Jinchuu was never designed to kill Kenshin, but to ruin the world that he has been trying so hard to protect by going after the people closest to Kenshin. First he blows up the Akabeko, the restaraunt that Kenshin's friends own. Then he attacks a dojo that is friends with the Kamiya dojo, where Kenshin is living. Last Enishi lkidnaps Kaoru and uses a doll of her to fake her death. Upon seeing the doll, Kenshin is mortified and plunges into a deep depression. He goes to Akuninmura, the outcast town, chains up his sword, and tells everyone to leave him alone. Enishi takes Kaoru to his base on a secluded island, telling her he'll let her go after Kenshin comitts suicide. He could not bring himself to kill her because she is the same age as Tomoe when she died and Kaoru even slightly resembles Tomoe. Kenshin's friends find out about the doll and once Kenshin also finds out, and they find out where Enishi has taken Kaoru, they set out to retrieve her. Kenshin and Enishi fight, and Kenshin tells Enishi the truth of Tomoe's death and their actual love for each other. Confused and pushed to an even more insane point, Enishi is unable to beat Kenshin. After he is beaten, one of Enishi's subordinates, Wuheishin, shows up with a gun and shoots Kenshin in the shoulder. Kaoru then runs in between Wuheishin and Kenshin to protect him as Wuheishin is about to shoot. Enishi, reminded that this is the way Tomoe died, punches Wuheishin and knocks him out before he can shoot. Kenshin thanks him for protecting Kaoru, and Enishi screams that he wasn't trying to protect her, but Tomoe. As Enishi is led off by the police, Kaoru gives him Tomoe's diary, which has Tomoe's account of the story, telling how she really did love Kenshin. Enishi escapes from the police and the last we see of him is that he has gone to Akuninmura, the same place Kenshin went to, after reading Tomoe's diary. In the end we are led to believe that he will eventually leave that place to live a life of retribution. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Whew!
