History Of The Hall

The first written mintues were in a meeting that took place on December 02, 1953. On July 14, 1954, Mr. Clarence Clements was elected Chief and Mr. Gaston Muller was elected as Deputy Chief. At this time the Mira Road Volunteer Fire Department was formed.

Frank Muller donated a piece of land to the new department and the department acquired an old Army Barracks from the North Side area. The building was dismantled and trucked to the Mira Road site and reconstructed to be the new one bay Fire Hall. Over time the building grew to a two bay garage with a back room kitchen also used for the meetings.

The first fire truck was a civil defense truck obtained from the government on loan. The first fire truck owned by the Mira Road Volunteer Fire Department was put together by members of the department after Joe Azar donated a chassis, tank and pump. A second truck was donated by ESSO, it  was a 1000 gallon tanker that was modified to be a fire truck. It wasn't until 1965 that the first factory built truck was purchased under Chief Gerald Buckland. To purchase the truck, 4, members had to put their own properties as collateral, now that's dedication. In 1972 another truck was puchased, a Ford 1000 gallon tanker. This truck was purchased under the direction of Cief Bernie Doucet. Later Jim Boyle obtained a used MT&T van to be used as the equipment vechicle. This van was replaced with a cube van purchased from the Port Hawksbury Fire Department.

In 1990 it became evident that we had outgrown the old Fire Station. The old school was torn down and the new Mira Road Volunteer Fire Hall was born
