The Passion of the Christ
Whatever you may have heard about this movie, it is a moving and sincere look at the last few hours before the death and ressurection of Christ. It is a bit graphic, though I would not say unecessarily so. The Passion would not be a good choice for young children. Favorite scene - when the tear falls from heaven's eye onto the grisly Golgotha scene. |

One Night With The King
A well done glimpse into the life of Queen Esther. If artistic license bothers you, they do take a few liberties, but none that effect the message of the story. Intense and some violence, not appropriate for small children. Particularly moving is the scene when Esther comes to the King at the risk of her life. |

The Nativity Story
A well done and intimate look at the world Jesus came into, and the way He came. Provides an excellent resource for observing first century Nazareth as it would have been. Gives interesting depth to the character of Joseph. Also not appropriate for very young children, due to violence which was in line with the Biblical account. My favorite part was the birth, the way the music and light from the star cuminated in a newborn baby's cry. |

The Last Sin Eater
I was so excited to discover they were making a movie of one of my favorite books! And if you haven't read the book anytime recently, you will greatly enjoy this movie. (My sister had just finished the book when she saw it and was distracted by the subtle differences. I hadn't read it for a couple years and did not feel the same way.)The sweet message of redemption and grace touches the beautiful mountain scenery and historical characters. The makers of this movie pulled off the trickiness of giving the story the mysterious and sad feeling that the book portrays. Not a children's movie, though it is about a young girl. Very faithful to the story of Francine River's book of the same title. My favorite scene is when Cadi asks the Man of God if he will ask the true sin eater to eat her sins. |

Amazing Grace
The captivating story of the passionate and interesting William Wilberforce. Though plagued with a painful stomach disease, Wilberforce had a zest for life and for the Savior. He also had a conviction he could not put aside though he tried: the plight of the unthinkable treatment of African slaves taken by ships to America. Through the guidance of his pastor, John Newton, Wilberforce took Parliment by storm and fought the good fight, in the end, convincing them against all odds to abolish the slave trade in England.
After seeing this movie, you will walk away with a deeper appreciation for the well known and well loved hymn, and you will be inspired to use the love you have for God to do His work, no matter the opposition. We could use a few more Wilberforces in this world! There is a surprising amount of slavery going on in our world today, and this movie motivates us to get involved to change that fact and work to make all people free to belong to God alone.
I would say this is an acceptable movie for older children. Younger ones might not find it very interesting and there are a couple parts that might be too intense for them.
