BIOLOGY

Welcome to Mr. Miranda's Science class. This is a unique class that incorporates lectures, as well has hands on laboratory application. This class consist of units, that will be completed within two or three weeks. Attendance is extremely important for your success.

SCHOLARSHIP GRADES:

A= 90%-100%, B= 80-89%, C= 70%-79%, D= 60%-69%, F<60%

All work will be graded, and then given back to the student to be kept in a 3-ring notebook. The work covered in class will be a direct representation of the concepts found on the test. Classwork will be graded using stamps. Two stamps will be full credit, and 1stamp is worth 50%. No stamp is a zero on that class assignment. It is essential that each student keeps and maintains a class notebook for his or her success in the class. Test will be strictly from what the student has learned (No Cheat Sheets, or Open Note Test). Classwork will represent approximately 50% of the grade, with the tests making up the remaining 50%.

CITIZENSHIP GRADES:

The class will involve considerable lecture, as well as a detailed explanation of how to perform the lab correctly and safely. Talking, or being disruptive during this time, as well as any inappropriate behavior during a lab, will result in an after school detention.

Detention consists of 15 minutes immediately following school. If a student fails to show up for detention, the parent or guardian will be notified. If on the following school day the student does not serve the detention, a referral will be issued for the orginal infraction, as well as not showing up for detention.

HOMEWORK:

Students will need to study the material covered in class before a test. Also reading corresponding chapters in the science text will be essential for success. Any work that was not completed in class will need to be completed at home and turned in the following school day.

BOOKS AND MATERIALS:

Students will bring their notebook, textbook and a # 2 pencil to

class every day.

MAKEUP WORK

1) Missing lab work: The class will move at a rapid pace, doing one or two labs every week. If

you are absent you may not be able to make up the lab. In such a case you are expected to

obtain the data from your lab partners and then analyze the results.

2) Missing Tests: You must make up all missed tests. It is in your best interest

to do this as soon as possible while the information is still fresh. Makeup

test will be administered after school, and require that you stay after school

to complete them.
