History of Miramichi River Cruisers
Our non-profit club was formed in 1998 by Sandy Donovan and Pat O'Donnell. In march or 1998, a meeting was held with 11 people in attendance. It was decided there was enough interest to form the club. In just 2 months the organization had grown to include 75 members.
The goals of the club are to provide a forum to bring car enthusiasts together and to raise funds for local charities. The River Cruisers also want to provide a family oriented social environment for members. It is a car club for owners of classic and antique vehicles which are 20 years or older.
We participate in many events throughout the year including attending other car shows around the Atlantic provinces and some members even go to places as far away as Ontario and into the States. The River Cruisers try to have at least 2 major fund raisers throughout the year to raise money for charity. One fund raiser that we have annually is our car show n' shine. This year was our third show. It was held on June 10th and 11th at the Miramichi Agricultural Exhibition in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada. It is a fun filled weekend of classics, music, prizes and much more, to date the club has raised approximately $13, 000 for charity. For the past couple of years, we have met at the local Burger King on thursday nights (weather permitting) to get together and anyone is welcome to come and show their vehicle even if you're not a member. It is a great way of meeting new people and seeing every ones classic or antique vehicles.
Our club membership year is from april 1st to march 31st, although you can join the club anytime by attending a club meeting which are held on the second sunday of every month at the Newcastle legion, usually held at 7pm. We have a calling committee who keep people informed of upcoming events. Our present executives include:Pat O'Donnell (Past President), Ronald Landry (President), None at present (Vice-president), Mary Tozer (Secretary) and Kathy McKinley(Treasurer)
