Personality: Videl is a very secretive character when first introduced. Not enigmatic and alluring, like Juuhachigou, but rather defensive and snappy like, well, a teenage girl. She seems overshadowed by her father, and though she tries her best to stand by him, she often sees him as the phony he is. She's fairly deductive, figuring out Gohan is the Great Saiyaman, and sneaky, as in her black mailing him into teaching her bukujutsu. It's more than likely Pan inherited her own underhanded ways from her mother. She's also very pushy, in a similar fashion to Chichi. In fact, the two don't get along very well until Chichi finds out Videl is rich, and therefore a suitable match for Gohan. Videl is admired by men (such as Sharpner), but never falls for any of them. She seems able to make an honest girl friend, though (Eraser). She is also very justice loving, but more than a bit defensive of her job. She hates when the Great Saiyaman appears, and does all she can to make him an enemy. Videl is fascinated by Gohan's power and his friends, especially when she figures out Gohan was the person who defeated Cell, not her father. She tries as much as possible to prove her strength, even trying to fight a dinosaur in order to recieve a dragonball.

Love Life: Videl has a numerous amount of admirers, her most apparent being Sharpner, but she never goes for him. She doesn't fall in love until she meets Son Gohan. She's attracted by his oafishness and sweetness, but doesn't feel much for him until she finds out he's the Great Saiyaman. When he trains her to fly, then tells her she should cut her hair, she blushes, her first indication of her liking him. Chichi also plays a part in their getting together, as she continually insists she's the perfect wife for her son. When Majin Supupo Bitchi beats Videl in the Budokai, rendering her in terrible shape, Gohan is terrified. After Gokou's retrieval of some Sensu Beans, Gohan revives her. By this time, everyone can see that the two are in love, even the dense Mr. Satan. Videl misses out on the fight with Buu, but she does help gather the dragonballs. The two eventually marry and have a daughter, Pan, who becomes a lead role in Dragonball GT.

Importance: Videl has importance in three ways. One, she's Gohan's love interest and the mother of his child. Two, she's Mr. Satan's daughter, adding a nice little twist to the story. Three, and my personal favorite, she's a strong woman who defends Satan City and can fight better'n any human besides Kuririn, Yamucha, Tenshinhan and Chichi around (actually, she just might be stronger than Chichi). I like Videl a lot, but then, I love all the Dragonball girls. Videl comes into the saga right when one would consider Gohan the main character, therefore her exposure to him is very important. She gets plenty of camera time in Z, but her importance quickly fades in GT.
