| Name: Son Chichi Name alternatives: Chi Chi, Chi-Chi, Chi-chi Name pun: Slang for breasts First appearance: Manga volume 1, act 11 (...And Into the Fire!), Dragonball ep 7 (The Bull Demon Lord of Mount Frying Pan) Appears in: Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT Hair: Black Eyes: Black Race: Human Ki abilities: She has the ability to create an aura around her as she powers up, suggesting the ability to control ki Seiyuu: Naoko Watanabe (same as Puaru!), Mayumi Shou American VA(s): Andrea Libman, Laura Sadiq(?), Cynthia Cranz Number of Hairstyles: 5 throughout the manga, 6 in DBZ the anime, 2 new ones in GT Deaths: 1 (Is turned into an egg and smashed by Super Buu) Personality: Pessimistic and extroverted, Chichi knows what she wants but is clueless how to get it. She loves Gokou, Gohan and Goten with all of her heart, often taking as much pride in their acheivements as they do, but she is torn by the fact that what they do could end up getting them killed. Although her ways of scolding Gokou for teaching their son to be a no-good fighter may seem pacifistic, she's prone to violence herself and is quite excellent at hand to hand combat. It was through her training that Goten achieved the level of SSJ. She is naturally suspicious of people, even as a child. When she first meets Muten Roshi she believes him to be an imposter and buries a helmet-blade in his head (hehe). She loves her children, however Goten received more of the normal "motherly love" than Gohan did. Chichi had always wished for him to be a scholar, probably hoping he wouldn't make the same mistakes in her life as she had. She is always torn between her undying love for her family, her fear for her family and her pride for her family. Chichi doesn't appear to have any close friends in Dragonball. The normal characters only met her in the very beginning and towards the very end. It could be assumed that Uranai Obaba and her have a close relationship, since Obaba always comes over to show her fights on her crystal ball when the television breaks. It's also possible she keeps in contact with Grandma Hakkake, the woman whom taught her to be a wife and provided the Basho Sen used to extinguish the flames that once again surround Mt. Frying Pan at the end of Dragonball. In late DBZ and in GT Chichi's best friend appears to be Buruma, however, the two seem to have a slight competetion going on between their families. Love Life: Chichi believed for a few seconds that Yamucha was her secret admirer, but other than that the only guy in Chichi's life has always been Son Gokou. The two first meet when Chichi is 11 and Gokou is 12. She tricks Gokou into promising to marry her by convincing him that marriage is a type of food. When the two met three years later at the Budokai, Chichi asks Gokou (after having lost to him just earlier) if he remembers their promise. He says yes and the two are married in the same day. They don't spend an awful lot of time together during the Z saga, causing Chichi to become somewhat protective of him. It can easily be said that the two love each other deeply and, while they have their differences, they are probably the most faithful of the couples on the show. Importance: Chichi shows little importance in the early days of Dragonball, meaning merely to be Gokou's possible love interest in the future. She only gets one real fight in the entire show, Chichi vs. Gokou. I think it's a shame. However, for a more minor character, she gets a lot of screen time. Her most important role is woman of the Son residence, really. However, she inadvertently moves the story along. She gives birth to Gohan and Goten, two of the most powerful fighters in the show. She's one of the many characters used to lighten up the show, rather than push the plot along. |
