Zell is basically the foil to Squall. Zell is talkative, hot-tempered, always swearing, funny, and reckless. He's a also a little goofy sometimes. (If any of you watch Gundam Wing, think Heero and Duo...Zell being Duo). Zell's greatest passion is the school hotdogs.....which everyone loves and unfortunatly he rarely every gets to the cafeteria in time to get one. He also likes martial arts. His step-grandfather was really into martial arts too, and Zell really admired him. Zell's greatest ambition was to bcome a SeeD at Balmb Garden. So, he joined up, and eventually met Squall (again, though he didn't remember him at that time) and passed the test, becoming a SeeD like Squall and Selphie (Seifer failed...again =).....
Though you may not meet her (it depends on how you play), Zell does have a girlfriend, or at least a girl who he likes....and she likes him back. She's a nameless girl that will bring Zell a book he wanted if you sleep at the hotel in Balamb at just the right point in the game. And at the end of the game, at the ending movie, she's the girl sitting with Zell while he's chowing down on hotdogs....
Zell was another boy who lived at Edea's orphanage after the Sorcerous Wars, with six other orphans (Squall, Ellone, Quistis, Selphie, Irvine, and Seifer). He was friends with all of them except Seifer. Seifer was really mean to Zell and was always making fun of him and picking on him. Seifer still does that all through the game, and Zell can't stand him. Zell probably hates him as much as Squall does.
Zell fights with his martial arts, and his spiffing gloves (like Tifa from FF7). His Limit Breaks can be irritating if you don't get all the codes in in time, but they are powerful once you build them up.
