Yuffie Kisaragi is a highly irritating character that you always have to watch yourself against. She's a 16 year old materia hunter-part time-ninja and she uses boomerangs, knives, and oragami (for thowing) as her choice of weaponry. She's 5'2, was born in Wutai on November 20th, and has blood type, A.
However, if you get this smart alec, arrogant, thief on your side the first time you meet her, she may never steal from you again. Though she can be a pain in the neck, she's a very useful ally, with cool attacks, helpful Limit Breaks (All Creation; rock on!) and special skills. She's also the other optional character you can have in this game, and she's must easier to find then Vincent.
Since her weapon is long range, I'd suggest keeping her in the back row and giving her plenty of materia.
