Squall is sort of the would-be Cloud of Final Fantasy 8. He's introspective, doesn't really care for other people and likes to be and do things by himself. However, unlike Cloud, he's more emotional. He doesn't have evil people in his head, but he is "tortured" by his own thoughts. His broken past and muddled memories of his life with six other orphans (Seifer, Selphie, Irvine, Zell, Quistis, and Ellone) at the house of Matron/Edea. He is more unsure of himself and not as confident about himself. It doesn't help that there is another guy named Seifer, who is a year older and always trying to pick fights with him that also attends Balamb Garden. Squall considers him a great rival. Squall's afraid of being dependent on other people and afraid of being "weak". He's cold, and he's untalkative. In short, he is the complete opposite of his father, Laguna.
Then he meets Rinoa. Rinoa is outgoing (sometimes) and always after Squall to open up and be nice to people. The two have a couple arguments and don't get along, but eventually, Squall comes to love her. He appreciates her...ability to (follow him around) be nice to him. Not acting toward him like everyone else does, cautiously. She doesn't treat him with caution, she treats him like her boyfriend. She awakens him up to his friends. She makes him realize that he has friends to care about him. (Their realationship is a lot like Heero and Relena in Gundam Wing, it's a love/hate relationship.....)
Squall is an excellent fighter and he the most useful Limit Breaks. What Limit Breaks he can use depends on his wepaon.
His step-sister is Ellone, adoptive daughter to Raine, who is the wife of Laguna. He sees visions of Ellone, and in "Dream Land" becomes Laguna. So, he very connected with his family, he just doesn't know that they're his family. |
