Penninghoeksingel 53
Home
Our new home at the Penninghoeksingel 53 located on a canalside ("Singel") in the centre of the historic town Middelburg. The house dates from 1850 and is said to be built as a warehouse. It has high ceilings, heavy wooden beams, 3 floors and a loft.
On the ground floor there is a working space (around 60m2) which is accessible from the street through double doors. There is a separate entrance and hall leading to the stairs to the 1st floor. On the 1st floor there is a hall, study, kitchen and living room. The kitchen and living room have windows to the front of the house (NW) and overlook the singel (canal). The living room has a fireplace and double glass doors to a balcony on the back of the house (SE). Also the study has windows to the SE. On the second floor there is a large bedroom, a smaller one and a bathroom. There is also a stairs to the (small) loft. The area is very quiet, as there is only a rather narrow street on our side of the canal which does not permit high speeds.
We like this house because it is very light, due to its large windows and because the living area is on the first floor. Furthermore there is a free view on the front (and partly to the back). The wooden floor and the high ceilings give a feeling of space.

Opposite to our new house is the "Herengracht" with some beautiful old buildings, especially the one right opposite to us(in the center of the picture): het Zeeuwse veilinghuis (the local auction house) in some kind of Jugendstil (?).
The historic town hall of Middelburg is just a few minutes walk.
