Metal detectoring is basically the same as treasure hunting, you never
know what you're going to find. I live in the Netherlands, and I mostly
find WWII shrapnel. These things at first don't seem more that a pile of
rust, but after cleaning, they can look pretty impressive. Especially
the copper detonator parts.
I'm very interested in more information about these finds:

These are a couple of grenade pieces. The copper items at the top are
all grenade detenators (or pieces there of). The two round disks are
the back ends of grenades (detonators mounted at the front).

This picture also shows granede pieces, at the top two outside pieces of the
detonator, in the centre the central hammer pin, and other small copper
pieces of the detonator.
The item at the right is presumably a piece of agricultural machinery, possibly a mower.

These three pictures show the finding of about 200 rounds of ammunition
in a chicken-run. They are mostly partly still in their canvass belts.

Two friends of mine who borrowed my detector found this white
phosphorus grenade. Although detonated, it still contained some
phosphorus, so I took a gas torch and burned it, causing a terrible
white smoke curtain.
