The words were halting and unsure, tumbling and twisting together, tentatively reaching out over a chasm that was, perhaps, too wide to cross.
“I swear I will never speak of it again, if you will but forgive me my folly.”
“I should never have left you in such a way, with so much unsaid between us.”
There was a moment’s silence, and suddenly the assurances and entreaties no longer mattered, stilled by a fierce embrace and unapologetic tears of relief. Replaced by the words each had feared would never again be spoken, but so needed to hear.
“Forgive me, tôren.”
