Road Trip 1999
During the summer of '99, I drove 10,000 miles around the country with some sort of purpose. While I did still work, I also took pictures with the possibility of doing some sort of photo exhibit, wrote with the possibility of turning it into some sort of monologue, and I made a few audio tapes with the possibility of turning it into a travelogue. I didn't accomplish any of those things yet, but perhaps one day I will. I drove from Phoenix, over to New Mexico, up to Colorado, across Nebraska (with the intention of staying with Steve, the Jethro Tull fan whom I stayed with in Kentucky- he moved to Omaha, but I couldn't get a hold of him when I got there), across Iowa, into Illinois (where I met Chuck Cwiakala and his kids, and they took me all around Chicago), over to Indiana, across Ohio, down through Pennsylvania, and into Maryland. I stayed in Maryland for a little while staying with Eytan and Neil & Maxine. Then I drove up to Massachusetts (through Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut) to stay with Rebecca for a few days. Together we drove through New Hampshire up to Maine, where we stayed with a friend of hers in Portland. Then I drove back down to Maryland and went to a Dave Matthews concert with Eytan at Hershey Park (of course we spent the day in Hershey Park). Then I drove back west passing through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, back through Illinois, into Wisconsin (where I had a great time in Madison), over to Minnesota where I stayed with Jeff for a few days, across North and South Dakota, into Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, down through Utah, and back to Arizona. While I didn't accomplish anything too creative, I enjoyed all the time to myself and the long drives. I enjoyed seeing signs for towns with strange names and enjoyed talking to all sorts of people. It was an amazing trip and I'd love to do it again one day (except stay off the interstates and enjoy more country scenery- kind of what like Bill Bryson did in "The Lost Continent".

I'm assuming the "D" was missing from this sign, if that's the case, what was I doing out there? (Boston, MA)
