Amsterdam, London, Hong Kong
In June, I had a business trip to London and Hong Kong. Neil was going too, so we decided to take a few days before we had to be in London and go to Amsterdam. Amsterdam was WONDERFUL (I'll certainly have to go back there one day soon)!! We went to tons of museums (they have amazing museums- my favourite museum in the world is now the Historic Museum in Amsterdam), took a canal ride, smoked some pot (well, I did), and just enjoyed the city life. London was wonderful too (it's one of my favourite cities in the world- probably in the top 3- New York and Boston are right up there with Amsterdam probably coming in at #4). I worked all day but managed to enjoy my free time to the fullest! I saw two shows ("Mamma Mia" and "Noises Off", went to plenty of bars (Lab was the most interesting bar I've ever been to- tons of "experimental" or unusual drinks like violet liqueur, several types of mint julips, tons of fruit drinks with ALL SORTS of fresh fruit...), and spent time walking around several neighbourhoods. Hong Kong was okay. I really liked doing business there- those people KNOW how to do business. I loved the over-the-top service they have (they knew what you wanted before you did). I had great peking duck at the Alexandre House (it was so good, we went back a second night). In terms of things to do- shopping was the main attraction (which I do not enjoy- although I let George took me shopping with him in both Hong Kong and Macau- he likes to shop), so there wasn't much to do with my free time. I checked out a few museums which weren't very interesting. Neil and I saw "Miss Saigon"- the touring company- it was fun to see it in an Asian culture. Neil, George, and I went to Macau for a day- I liked wandering around there and being the only caucasian tourist in sight. I spent a lot of time in the hotel bars (there were several) since I didn't know where else to go alone at night and Neil was sharing a room with me so I couldn't do much while he was sleeping. The bars were fun and the drinks were strong. George joined me several nights which made for interesting conversation. All in all, it was a wonderful trip!
