He was lying in a pool of blood. Sitting on a float, reading SPIN magazine. Nine Inch Nails was playing in the bedroom.
He started spinning. Thrown out of the pool, he landed in a dark forest. Skulls were all around with nude men shouting things at him. The skulls smiled at him, beckoning him forward. He fought to turn around, but he could not.
A huge dove swooped down and carried him off to a small white room. In one corner lay a bird's beak, in the other corner, a human head. He sat in the middle of the room, waiting.
Her yard was brown and bare. Snakes weaved in and out of the dead rodents. Flies buzzed all around. She had one room where she kept everything neat and in control. Her bedroom, just used to sleep in, with sheets that have been on the bed for 3 years- never changed, never washed. The kitchen had some fresh food but old, moldy food as well. She had 4 outfits, all black, also never washed. She seemed like a slob, but she controlled the world.
She had a cottage located at the end of the forest, surrounded by skulls. No one knew about it. This woman loved death. Anything that she had the slightest problem with, she killed. She had no sympathy for anything. People- she hated people.
Sitting in the middle of the room, he wondered how to escape. There was no door, no window. Just a bird's beak and the human head. He turned around for a split second, and the human head decayed and became a skull. When he went to look at the skull, he felt very ill. His mind seemed to be taken over by some powerful force. He swayed back and forth, feeling feelings he'd never felt before. The only thing left in the room was the beak. He tried to reach for it. Gasping for air, the room started closing in. All 4 walls, the ceiling, and the floor were trying to crush him. Finally he got the beak. What could it do, he thought.
He found himself in a dark tunnel. Probably somewhere in the middle of it, was his educated guess. He heard screams coming from one end and silence from the other. He went toward the silence and found a sword. He took it for protection. The handle had a little baby skull on it. Unnoticed by him, he kept walking. He saw a yellowish, white light. It called out freedom. A big, black robe with a skull for a head appeared, telling him to put down the sword and walk into the flaming, hot fire. He thought he'd give anything to go back to the middle and go the other way. Just then, a little white dove came and carried him back.
He still heard the screams but started walking. A glass of water stood in front of him, but he declined. Never know what might be in it. Two minutes later, he went back and got the glass. He was thirsty.
Hilary waited for her big brother to come home. He was the only family she had left. She was only 14 and couldn't take care of herself. Her brother was 21. He was a strange fellow, but she loved him dearly. He was a loner as she had many friends. Hilary couldn't understand where he was. He never just left like this.
The screams got louder and louder. He assumed he was approaching the end, considering he had walked an awfully long distance. All of a sudden, the screaming stopped. He walked out of the tunnel and found himself on a boat.
Drat. This man has some sort of good working with him, the woman at the cottage thought. She decided she would have to make a personal appearance. She packed everything in a little black bag and set out to the bay.
He seemed to be the only one on the boat, which was fine since he wasn't in the mood for company. Who was steering the ship? It appeared to be steering itself. Suddenly, he heard a loud buzzing noise. An old lady wearing all black jumped in front of him. It was stormy. Lightning struck the mast. The boat went crazy. The old woman and the young man fought. Back and forth, up and down the ship. Suddenly, there was a big splash.
Hilary had a small burial service and a few of her friends came. One of her friends' family said they would take her in. She was grateful but extremely devastated. No more would she see her dear brother again.
THE SWIM CLUB- AS DESCRIBED BY A LITTLE GIRL, AN OLD WOMAN, A MENTALLY DISTURBED GIRL, AND A MAN WHO RECENTLY ESCAPED FROM JAIL
Oh boy, what should I do first? I want to get a tan like my older sister. Oh, I want to get... No, I'll go in... No, I'll get popcorn. "Coming mommy." Hey, someone pushed me in the pool. "You nasty boy." Wee. "Mommy. Watch me jump off the high dive." Now I'll go to the snack bar. "Popcorn and a coke, please." I have to go to the bathroom. Yuck, they're dirty. I'm gonna go tan now.
Why do I keep coming back here? It reminds me of Herman. His body is just across the street. I remember not too long ago, when he dared to jump off the high dive. He did it too. I just layed there getting a tan. Oh, why did he have to leave this world? We used to get ice cream from the snack bar. The young man who worked there was so nice. Sometimes he'd give me a free ice cream. This place makes me so very sad.
Eenie, meenie, minie, moe. Which chair should I sit in? Oooh, there's the playground. I'm gonna go down the sliding board. "What do you mean I'm too big?" How rude. I'll go get popcorn and a big tall lemonade. I don't like that boy. He deserves to die. Bye-bye. I'll just drown him. Ha ha. Gee, why is everyone making sure he's alive? He's completely dead thanks to me. I hated him. I'm gonna go get an ice cream now. This place has the best ice cream.
Where can I go? There must be someplace to hide. Maybe the pool is crowded enough to get lost in. No, they'll find me. In the bathroom? No, they'll look in there. Oh, there are the sirens. They'll be here soon. Where can I hide? Okay, I know. "Excuse me sir." (he punches the boy and throws him behind the chocolate ice cream containers). "Hello, what would you like? We're out of chocolate ice cream." Good, I'm safe.
There's so much going on in my head, I fear it might explode
